Carrie and Blow Out are #'s 1 and 2 of "Best DePalma DePalma Films", and I'd also give the point to Blow Out, with a nod to Phantom of the Paradise at third. Carrie only picks up its speed at the climax.
The Untouchables is one of my favorites as well. There is so much good stuff in and about this film, it's hard to decide where to start, but I will say I love Connery and Costner, their performances are amazing.

My other favorite DePalmas are Scarface and Dressed to Kill... haven't seen Blow Out but it seems like I need to.

Default Chronicle of a Summer

I was able to watch Chronicle of a Summer last night, a title that I picked up during the last B&N sale.

I found it to be a fascinating time capsule; a look and listen into Paris, 1960. Highly recommended.

Isn't Chronicle of a Summer an Ingmar Bergman film?

I guess it's an easy mistake to make because he has three films in the collection with the word "Summer" in the title.

Tue, he does have a few titles with seasons in it. He's not as bad as Ozu though. It can be confusing as hell to remember which movie is which when the titles are:

Early Spring
Late Spring
Early Summer
The End of Summer
Early Autumn
Late Autumn
An Autumn Afternoon

Plus some of the plots are very similar. I don't think he ever did a Winter one oddly enough.

I guess he was just an optimist...or maybe he just knew he wouldn't be able to top 'Winter Light'--one of Bergman's best and the one film of his that has made the deepest impact on me.

Saw that months ago at Ebertfest and caught it again last night. Just as good. What a cast.

EDIT: Said this before, but the similarities to Say Anything... feel nearly endless.

My favorite Brian De Palma movies (in order of ranking):

1. Carlito's Way
2. Blow Out
3. Femme Fatale
4. Casualties of War
5. Mission to Mars
6. Scarface
7. Carrie
8. Mission Impossible
9. Hi, Mom!
10. Snake Eyes

Those are all the films I've seen of his too. I won't rank movies of his I haven't seen yet (and I know there are many).

Finished the fantastic David Lean set this morning. I'd seen them all before with the exception of In Which We Serve. Easily my one of my favourite Criterion blu's. With This Happy Breed been my favourite in the set.

Recently re-watched Lean's (and my favourite) adaptation of Oliver as it was on TV. Criterion really need to bring Great Expectations & Oliver to blu ray now.

I'm seriously considering to get that set. It looks amazing.

Not out of the question, given Criterion's close relationship with IFC.

Since I have Labor Day off, I've decided to have
Silent (And Partial Talkie) Double Feature Weekend Long Marathon!!!!!

On Saturday, I'll watch The Rink, The Gold Rush (1925 Version), and Modern Times with an intermission in between TGR and MT. On Sunday, I'll Watch The Great Dictator and The Gold Rush (1942 Version) with an intermission between the 2. And on Labor Day, I'll watch Safety Last!, and the 3 short films found on the Criterion Blu Ray (Take a Chance, Young Mr. Jazz, and His Royal Slyness), with an intermission between the 2. It's gonna be great.

Can't agree. After two viewings several years apart, I thought M:I1 was, at best, just OK. After one viewing, I think The Untouchables didn't suck, but I didn't care for it enough to ever watch it a second time. Phantom of the Paradise was fun for a few viewings, but I don't think it holds up well. Carrie I think works extremely well all the way through. It's one of the few instances in which I think a movie adaptation of a book is superior to the book.
