![]() It's not a bad as the 3rd cap though. The helicopter's back rotor blades have been partially removed. ![]() http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ss=1#vergleich Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 08-20-2013 at 10:52 AM. |

For every bad shot that gets pulled out, there are several as good as this one:
http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ss=0#vergleich ...it's really nowhere near the earth-ending travesty some would have you believe it is. |

Yeah, that Bill Duke shot is easily one of the ones that makes me cringe the most. Film isn't meant to look like an oil painting.

I own both version and both looks like crap, overall the original release is better but some shots in the UHE ed. Are much better than in the original.
I preordered the 3D head edition and I just hope this time they nailed it. ![]() No more War of the Ants and Madam Tussauds edition !! ![]() http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ss=0#vergleich Last edited by besi; 08-20-2013 at 05:36 PM. |

Schawn Belston's name came up a few pages back. I have read several interesting articles quoting him today. I'm convinced that both the 2008 and 2010 Predator releases came from the same 4K scan, although that is not specifically stated in the linked article. one of the more interesting excerpts:
*Schawn believes that objective criteria about color, contrast, and other properties need to be balanced with concern for the audience’s experience. By today’s standards, original copies of Gone with the Wind and The Gang’s All Here look surprisingly muted. But to audiences of the time, they probably looked splashy, because viewers saw so few color movies. Restorers and modern viewers have to recognize that perception of a film’s look is comparative, and the terms of the comparison can change." http://www.davidbordwell.net/blog/20...d-city-movies/ So, it is plausible that studios will update the look of catalogue properties to appeal to contemporary audiences. Just as Fox did with Predator UHE. |

The transfer is nothing but a travesty. ![]() Quote:
And again what's with the major defending of the UHE? Are you sure you didn't work on it and I say that in the nicest possible way. ![]() Fox stopped the practice of DNR'ing their catalog transfers a long time ago. I think the UHE was the nail in the coffin. |

*Most classic films in a studio library are not available on DCP. If an archive or cinematheque or theatre wants one, there are ways to make on-demand DCPs. But it’s not cheap. A 2K scan runs $40,000; a 4K scan, somewhat more. Schawn opts for 4K because a digital version should be the best possible. It might be the last chance to make one!" Show me some proof that Fox has stopped using DNR on their catalogue transfers. I've already told you that the criticism of the UHE was officially rejected by Fox and that their choices during the mastering process have been validated by sales. |

There's loads of proof that Fox have stooped DNR'ing their catalog titles. Can you honestly tell me what catalog release they've done since the UHE that have been filtered? Also the fact that Fox went back and fixed one of their biggest DNR disasters (Patton) is another indication that they've realised that it does nothing but damage the image. |

This is not an issue any longer with Fox, Sony, and Warner generally speaking. Crap is still coming out from Paramount and Universal, but those are older 1080p scans done years ago. The rare new transfers on catalogs they have performed have looked good such as the classic monster movies and Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc. Last edited by HeavyHitter; 08-20-2013 at 10:17 PM. |
