There was actually a Friday 13th, in December 1985. So just make a movie of Jason set during that time, in Winter, so the Lake is iced over and makes a setting similar to that of The Shining.

Well, if by 2 weeks ago you meant Split, I'd perhaps agree? Otherwise I imagine 2 years ago is his last "Flop" movie on a huge budget and my point was that if we look at Split which is made on a low budget and very well done as a movie bar a few stupid story points. It was pretty damn good at balancing into the almost type of elements that could transfer into a Friday the 13th movie.

He's a bit of a outside choice personally speaking than a front runner mind you. Lower budget though means a lower risk of financial failure and better returns or easier break even.

If this is true I'm not at all sad about it being cancelled. You don't try to 'class up' Friday the 13th.
A Friday The 13th film that stared Bette Midler and had a 'ban on nudity?'

Okay, I'm 100% fine with them canceling the film. That sounds lame.

I wanted this movie if it was going to be good; however, I don't want another bad Friday.

I really like Friday the 13th 1-4, but feel the series never had the great finales that parts 3 and 4 had, etc., ever again.

I really want a new Friday the 13th movie! I especially liked that Paramount was making it. Why? Well, I think Paramount made the best ones while New Line made horrible ones.

I don't want a sucky Friday either. I was just hoping that it would come out and be good.

I guess I'll have to rely on IT and Cult of Chucky for my horror fix. I'm hoping Cult of Chucky comes out like Child's Play 1 and not Child's Play 6, but that's just hope...

Paramount: I never planned on seeing Rings to begin with. The trailer was awful among other issues. However, I would have seen a new Friday the 13th if it were good theatrically.

The movie IT is supposedly coming out very well at test screenings. So, Paramount, Rings is not the issue. Make a good movie and the audience will follow.

The Visit was very low budget and made a fortune x

WTF!? That's way too convoluted for a Friday the 13th movie. Glad it got cancelled.

Basically:

[Show spoiler]Elias Voorhees, Jason's dad, kills 4-5 people. Jason's drowning is changed so he drowns (at 16 years old) due cruel counselors who were high on acid and filmed the entire incident. Despite destroying the footage, Pamela Voorhees finds about about the footage and kills a few people. Then the rest of the film is a rehash of 1-3 with Jason being the killer for the last 30 mins or so. The big kicker is that apparently Elias may have known something about Jason becuase in a journal he notes KILL HIM BEFORE HE IS BORN, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Sounds like we dodged a bullet with this one. It's interesting how they have such a hard time making such a simple type of film. Fans have been very clear on what they want. Convoluted origins and explanations are not needed. Looks like we might not get a Jason movie this decade, but at least it looks like Halloween will happen.

Christ, all they have to do is make a movie that doesn't completely suck and it's going to make money.

How hard can that be?

It's Friday the 13th...it's not rocket science.

Exactly! You have at least 7 movies that follow the same template, and we bought it. We'll buy it again...trust us!!

I don't understand why they feel the need to keep going down the "explain the killers motivation" well with these reboots. Halloween and F13th don't NEED complicated back stories, because frankly nobody CARES why Jason and Michael kill. These movies aren't high art.

I'm not inherently opposed to the idea of a backstory angle.

It could be cool if it was a well written, thoughtful story.

Or it could be stupid and lame (probably the more likely scenario).

I actually liked the backstory angle in the Rob Zombie Halloween remake, I just didn't think it was very well written and was somewhat poorly executed.

I don't know if the problem is the fact that the writing talent has dried up within the Hollywood studio system, or if the studios are run by well-dressed morons who prevent the writers from doing what they do best.

It just feels like movies coming out of the Hollywood are, with some exceptions, worse than they've ever been.

...something exemplified by the fact that they can't even get a decent F13th sequel off the ground.

How can those be considered spoilers if it's not going to happen? But the odds of 3 family members being serial killers? lol

I like the bookend lookout tower scenes, but it sounded more like a season of Bates Motel. ("Meanwhile, the enigmatic camp owner, who is not quite what he seems...")

Agree they seem to be overthinking the franchise. Why make a fun, scary campfire tale of a bogeyman into a drawn-out family psychodrama (which works better on TV anyway, like Bates or Hannibal). Seems to be the fate of classic movies that came from a simple but effective idea.

Maybe Wingard & Barrett could do it under the title "The Lake." It would basically be a straight remake, except it has a drone that gets stuck in a tree...

So I'm guessing this was less about cold feet from RINGS, and more about an Exec wised up about how awful that script was?
