Synapse only has US rights for all the product they licence but until Demons their discs were available from all retailers.

Was Demons available from Diabolik ?

Was that the limited edition steelbook, or just the regular release?

The limited steelbooks. They got hundreds of copies in the course of several shipments. They still have some copies of Demons right now (scroll down the page)....

They can pack it in a brown paper bag and charge a $100 for all I care. I will happily hand over my money anyway.

Personally, I think we will see something similar to the DEMONS releases. Perhaps not steelbooks, as they apparently had to handle quite a few returns due to damage in transit. But I could see them release some kind of limited special edition with all the whistles and then a cheaper standard with reduced extras.

The movie has many fans around the globe, and a large portion of those are probably already aware of the upcoming Synapse release and plan to get it. Synapse should easily be able to move 3,000 LE, if not more.

I guess that was the philosophy behind the last German release. I'm glad I held out, can't wait for this synapse release but in all honesty I would appreciate an affordable release (30 $ price range).

Very pleased so far with those screenshots they posted!

I will buy the most expensive version available. Unless it comes in a big cardboard truck.

Damn . If I'd known it was still available I wouldn't have bought the Synapse cut down reissue .

Too late now - I'm not buying it again

I concur. I'm not even a fan of the movie, but these have me thinking I should give it a second viewing.

I'll agree with what others have already said, the scans already look pretty good. I guess the only tricky part to this blu-ray may simply end up being the conversion/compression process to make sure they avoid the crappy color anomalies that have plagued previous blu-ray releases.

Have you seen the last few Synapse releases? I don't think you'll have to worry about that. I'm sure Synapse has already put more work into this than all the other releases combined.

Frankly I think the color of those images Synapse posted look pretty "spot on". It seems to be a "best of both worlds", with a good amount of saturation while retaining a more natural color palette (specifically the outside shot of the school - NO HOT PINK).

I hope they keep it along the lines of the pictures presented, as opposed to the tealish appearance of the german blu.

For those that own it, what do people think of the colors for the original 3-Disc Anchor Bay DVD?

They're certainly a lot more appealing than the fruity colors of all the Blu-ray releases and I suspect Synapse's Blu-ray will look closer to it.

I believe upon seeing a print of the film, Michael Mackenzie stated the DVD's colors to be pretty closely accurate. He has a huge comparison of three Blu-rays and the DVD here.

The UK disc is nevertheless my go-to currently when viewing the movie, mostly for the higher resolution and the audio, but I'm really looking forward to how a new 4K scan in competent hands will fix all the issues of the previous master.

I think they're accurate. Even though I haven't had anything else to compare it to, from comparisons conducted elsewhere, the DVD is the most accurate and remains the standard by which everybody has measured color accuracy on Suspiria releases since then.

Unless people saw it at the cinema nobody really knows for sure about the accuracy of the various home video versions.

I love the movie as its a visual and aural treat .
I had the Magnum Laserdisc , then the 3 Disc Anchor Bay dvd set which I still have and the UK and Australian Bluray editions.

I've not had a problem with the colour schemes of any of these presentations.
The film shows us a surreal world of colour , sound and action so fluctuations in the colour make no difference to me.

But the AB dvd did jarr because the surround remix spoilt it for me as many of the sounds I was familiar with were buried .
The opening taxi ride has crashing rain all around and this was reduced way too much on the dvd.

For me , the fact the Blurays have restored the sound to what I liked is good enough and even though I've seen the film many times since 1982 I couldn't tell you whether the colour was what I first saw on VHS or not - and I don't think it matters enough to not view the film.

Of course if Synapse can get a definitive version out there I'll likely buy that too

The trouble with the previous HD master and all the Blu-rays derived from it are the blown highlights and ultra wonky colors. It's a colorful movie, but I doubt Argento or the DP ever intended people to look so red. So much detail is lost during the finale because the contrast runs too hot. It had far too many problems baked in; it sounds like the '84 guys did a commendable job tweaking it, but a fresh scan from the negative will yield highly superior results and last I heard, Synapse are working with a Technicolor lab on this.

But yes, the proper audio makes me put up with the bizarre video quality. I'd only seen the movie via the AB DVD, so seeing the UK BD was like a whole new experience, hearing sounds and music where there was nothing before. That DVD surround mix was completely botched.

Looking forward to the Synapse BD having the definitive a/v presentation and hopefully with lots of good extras (including the Jones/Newman commentary if possible). Wondering if they'll try to do a 4-channel theatrical sound track.
