Shrug. My words where paraphrasing the director of demon's souls, dark souls and bloodborne. But I guess he must be wrong and must be saying something that is a disservice to his games.

Decided to reactivate GameFly for a month for a $1 and this is on it's way. By reading this thread I will most certainly need to watch a beginner guide

Beat Logarius.

That's the second time in a row I've skipped multiple boss fights. Should have been The One Reborn.

There is zero western about the Souls games/Bloodborne. You can't name me a real western RPG that came out before Demon's Souls which is anything like them. There have been copycats since, but that's it.

I swear western RPG means "Anything not traditional JRPG" these days.

Or, to a different audience, Western RPG = "RPG I like"...JRPG = "RPG I don't like".

RPG is simply ROLE PLAYING GAME .. are you not playing a role in this game ?? you dont switch characters at all in it .. pretty sure that falls under the ROLE playing ......i dont know where in time RPG meant stat leveling and gear and all that ...

You can play the Role of Nathan Drake in Uncharted, and Batman in Arkham City, and Miguel Cabrera in MLB15. But that does not put any of them into the RPG genre. Neither does simply having stats or character levels. A western RPG is certainly not what it used to be, but should be derived at least in spirit from the concept of pencil and paper RPGs of the real old days. First and foremost you have to be able to CHOOSE a role. Not get one forced upon you. There is nothing wrong with the latter, but that does not fit the generally recognized definition of RPG.

The real disservice here was done to cajmoyper who wanted to be able to place this game into a genre with which he was familiar, so he could make a reasonably informed decision on whether to buy it. To say it's anything like Dragon Age (the closest thing recently on PS4 to WRPG) would be misleading.

Made it past four more bosses, might need to do some grinding before I take on the next one.

Bloodborne has shown me that I am terrible at exploring. 30 hours in and level 56 and just now found Old Yharnam....even though I had been near the lever to open tomb days ago....how did I miss that?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I suspect the chalice location is here? Man, I suck.........

Easy to miss some of the shortcuts. But when you find one, it's immensely satisfying.

Arcane or Bloodtinge does boost you Pysical DEF (but not by much) if you level it up but I'm curious if there is stuff later on that made you wish you did.
Actually I read that after you kill The One Reborn who is in that same area you can later go back and kill Darkbeast Paarl. The "giants" aren't nearly as big as the huge ones with axes. They're pretty tall though and have a hood and cloak on. Just looked them up and they're called Snatchers.

As for that whole RPG argument, as far as I'm concerned if you can gain levels, get new weapons and armor/clothing and can build up stats, that's an RPG to me. Or a mix like an action/RPG.

I'll put this in spoilers in case you want to figure it out on your own, unless you already did and I'm late with this.
[Show spoiler]Head to the sewers, it's near where all the dog kennels are.

So what is there to do after completing it?
I have all the weapons? I beat all the bosses?
In DS and DSII there were special weapons, gear, things you didn't have in the first playthrough.
There's nothing waiting for me on the NG+ besides everything being stupid hard and my +10 Axe doing nothing to them.

I take it you got a platinum trophy when you beat it the first time?

I haven't finished the game yet but when I looked up the list of all trophies for this game online a few days back I realized that you can basically get platinum on first playthrough I believe. Like you said, in Demon Souls and Dark Souls you had to play through a few times.

Yeah, I found that area earlier in the game before the boss. I just thought, after beating the Cleric Beast, the gate behind him could somehow be opened. Still haven't received any gift from Gilbert though.

Did quite a bit of that last night. It was fun and I did it late at night with headphones on . Explored quite a bit until I got killed running away from a
[Show spoiler]giant pig in the sewers. I thought it was the second Boss, actually, and ran into an ambush of four or five villagers on the surface. The plus side is I got the elevator to work.
Need to go back as I hear there's sill some good loot to be had.

Didn't care for the platinum. Missed a quest or two but whatever the rewards were it wouldn't change the game all that much. There's no weapon that will make a TON of damage or stone that would make the play through different :-(

The guys at the beginning I was able to one shot before completing the game. In new game they take 3-4 hits with a +10 axe. Makes no sense. My weapons won't get any stronger. There was armor/shields/ rare stuff in DS that NEEDED a second play through.

The chalice dungeons besides being "fun" aren't at all rewarding.

PvP I never liked and even at that I tried invading all morning and got one game and the Beckoner left.

Keep talking to Gilbert because that's who I received it from. Try again after you beat the second boss. If anything you can always buy it later from the bottom fountain in the Hunter's Dream, but it is nice to get it for free.

That does kind of suck. I'm past the halfway point in this game I believe and I love it but it's kind of a bummer knowing there's no real re-play value by doing NG+. How far have you made it through on NG+? I ask because maybe there are rare items the more you progress.

I don't care for PVP either, two *******s invaded me and I took them both out but I don't care for it in these games.

You guys are crapping on my progress. I'm lvl 31 and about to fight the 3rd boss. I found both shortcuts in Old Yharnam, so I'm gonna try to beat him tonight. I read that if you use your Blood lure, it's easier to beat him. He walks toward it slowly, allowing you to attack him. Is this true?

On a brighter note, I haven't really died alot since the first day. So far in Old Yharnam I only died twice. Once by poison and another time when I fell off the roof after beating the machine gunner. The game probably gets harder, but right now I've had a more frustrating time with Ninja Gaiden.

I didn't make it anywhere really. Finished it this morning.

[Show spoiler]The minute you finish the last boss fight the game ENDS.

This one spoils the end...you've been warned.
[Show spoiler]Make sure you get the 3 umbilical cords if you want to fight the "hidden" boss at the end. You have to devour them before going to fight Gerhman

I soloed every boss except the 3 guys (reapers)... forbidden forrest??

The only really really really stupid parts were the Nightmare portions. The bosses were AMAZING but the levels and Frenzy was down right absurd.

I don't know why they introduced FRENZY. Very stupid and frustrating to say the least. And also very annoying that you can only access your goods from the Hunter's Dream. Need some more knives? Three Screen loads to get back to where you were
