Disney's Milder 3D:
While it would be nice to have more Disney 3D films on blu ray 3D for the fans of 3D, Disney's CGI cartoon movies' 3D combined with Pixar's; mostly a mix of mild to medium 3D. That detail makes their 3D releases less exciting to begin with compared to a stronger 3D release of Dreamworks or a 3D film from Ben Stassen. (Beauty & the Beast 3D looked great in high medium 3D, too bad we'll probably never see Aladdin 3D or Rescuers Down Under 3D).

Dreamwork's Stronger 3D:
Disney is still lagging behind Dreamworks in the 3D strength department. Dreamworks Madagacar 3 3D, The Croods and a few others offer strong 3D worth checking out.
Dreamworks' November 25th, 2014 Penguins 3D looks high medium to strong, great in the trailers. Possibly on par with Madagascar 3's 3D? Possible.

This one could be interesting. Possibly native since Gillespie did Fright Night.

The Finest Hours
Director: Craig Gillespie
Disney Pictures
Release Date: 4/15/16

It's coming out real soon, but I haven't seen any actual confirmation that Strange Magic will be released in 3d.

Michael Jackson's Thriller, in case anyone might've thought otherwise, is just the music video. I haven't seen any actual release date for that one.

Thumbs up

Thanks Tigermoth.

Will check these out in 3D theaters.
Jupiter Ascending - Feb 6 (will give it a chance)
Seventh Son - Feb 6 (This will be a tough sell in theaters, but looks like fun)
Avengers Age of Ultron - May 1 (I hope the 3D is on par with GOTGalaxy)
Mad Max: Fury Road - May 15 (wide open desert, tougher to get good 3D)
San Andreas - May 29 (The Rock versus a massive earthquake)
Jurassic World - June 12 (Make the 3D on par with JP's conversion)
Terminator: Genisys - Jul 1 (Arnold is back as the Terminator. )
Ant Man - Jul 17 (The ability to shrink to ant size... interesting)
Poltergeist - Jul 24 (not sure about it, but nice to see horror 3D in theaters)
The Peanuts Movie - Nov 6 (from the Ice Age animators, might be good)
Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Dec 18 (I hope the 3D is strong)
Kung Fu Panda 3 - Dec 23 (Really like the first two and the 3D)

Will have to wait and see more for the other ones before seeing them.

Pleased to see so many theatrical 3D movies on the docket. The question is: how many will be released on 3D BD? I am hopefully a good number will come out in the USA, but if they don't, my fingers are crossed for international 3D BD releases (importing 3D blu-rays seems to be the trend).

A lot of Marvel films in there. I haven't seen any slow down of new blu ray 3D releases for live action 3D action/sci fi/fantasy adventure movies, aside from Disney ignoring their 3D animated films for US release on BR3D.

2016 looks awesome for sci fi, action, super hero movies.

Funny I heard just a few short weeks ago on this forum that 3D is dead and there are less movies coming out in 3D in the future......

Here's one film that isn't yet on the list, but might appear on the list sometime between 2016 and 2019 or later. Every couple of months for the past few years the rumour mill starts something about it. Previously it was said to be a 3D reboot, more recently it was said to be a sequel rather than a reboot, and Chris Columbus is apparently involved.

Frankly, it has to happen, and I can't wait.

I'm looking forward to Jupiter Ascending. Some say this is being dumped which may be a sign of trouble, but it looks big and ambitious to me, so I'll probably be checking that out.

The new Spongebob looks like it should be fun. I've seen the trailer, although not in 3d yet, but there's so many 'coming at you' type shots in it, I get the impression they're really taking advantage of the format. Also going by the poster art and the fonts they're using. It's nice to see a film that's not afraid to make a big deal out of being 3d, at a time when other films almost don't want you to know. I like the look they're going with too, somehow they managed to get their CG animation to look cartoonier than their cartoon animation.

Looking further ahead, I can't wait to see how Skull Island turns out. I presume they'll find another Kong at some point, but hopefully it's not just a retread.

Spongebob looks AMAZING in 3d, no joke. They really took full advantage of the format with that movie.

I was so relieved to see today that Terminator Genysis will be in 3D and IMAX 3D today. It's going to be ****iiiing epic! Lol

Very relieved too to see that 3d is alive and well and even stronger either it's lineup than before. 3D is the future ladies and gents!

I believe Skull Island is set BEFORE the events of PJ's King Kong, so the giant gorilla could well be Kong himself.

There's actually 2 Skull Island movies listed on IMDB at the moment. I assume there's some mix up there. The synopsis I read said it was set 25 years after the original, but other sources say Skull Island will be an 'origin' story.

good to know.
Interesting, wonder which it will be. The original sequel to Kong, Son of Kong was set after the events of King Kong and featured the island being submerged by the end. I'll be happy with a prequel or a sequel, I just hope it isn't too Kong centric and features more creatures of the island.

From what I could gather from IMDB, it appears that none of the live action films listed above are being done in native 3D.

3D may not be dead. But native 3D appears to be. Post-Converted films won't be getting a dime from me.
