I got episode 2 on VHS, full screen edition. People talking in the movie are cut out of the frame and the last 2 seconds of the movie is the original aspect ratio SQUEEZED into 4:3. That is a good example of how horrid things can be, which I would agree with Bates on. However... there is a difference between "good" and "good enough". I can see why someone who has worked a lot with this stuff will notice it, but regular viewers won't care. Why didn't we get a Stereo track? The original was broadcasted with a stereo track **** it!

edit:
About the screen shots: The video is 1980*1080, but the screen grabs are larger. Do they look slightly better in native resolution?
Oh yeah man, absolutely. When the era of Pan & Scan mostly came to a close, I was very happy. I say mostly, because the premium cable networks often get the movies they license in 1:85:1, no matter what aspect ratio it was filmed in, which means cropping ultra wide, or opening up the frame. Opening up the frame I can deal with, but cropping I will just turn the movie off and try another one.

In terms of the video on the set, I think yes, perhaps it looked a little better on my TV than it did on the computer screen. I can take some pictures if you guys want, I have several devices with good cameras on them. However I do not find that kind of picture to be very representative of the quality on a TV.

I added a picture as an attachment, a screen grab from youtube with two intros side by side. The men on the HD version look a bit stretched and it doesn't seem like they had a lot of space to open up with either.
But then again... "good" or "good enough". I don't think The Shield suffered from the same issue.

Let's be happy that this beloved show is HERE on a superior format.
The added lines of resolution will be most welcome, especially when viewed at 150" diagonal. My copy got delivered a couple hours ago via UPS. Never get deliveries from UPS that early in the day. Clearly they're trying to stay head of the curve. I drove a UPS truck for a number of years myself. Always loved this time of year despite how crazy things would get. Miss all the tips and Christmas treats I used to get from my regular stops. :-P

Why’s everyone seem to be having an issue with the aspect ratio? Didn’t the creator confirm that they shoot it in Widescreen as well so they wouldn’t have to chop it?

Figured I'd pop-in and give you all a bit of a laugh...it took me a good 2 minutes before I figured out how to open the case.

Nice! Now I'll have to open mine. I'll let you know how long it takes me.

Update...
Well, once the shrink wrap was off it took me about 5 seconds. Then again, I've got a magnetic personality. Probably why I figured it out so quickly.

Classy package. If the A/V quality matches the packaging, this should be a great set.

Looks nicely put together but, ugh - cardboard slots for the discs? Are we really still doing that shit?

Love the packaging. Haven’t had a disc affected by cardboard packaging, but have had plenty of plastic hubs broken during transit that have then acted like a rake on the disc as it bounces around freely.

If you need to save your shelf space, this kind of packaging is ideal. Very compact. And very nice looking too

I often wonder what people do to these discs to scratch them. Cardboard slots have NEVER once hurt a disc in my experience.

I'm surprised no one mentioned how all the discs were perfectly positioned in the pics I posted.

I was shocked to see this! Didn't adjust the positioning of a single one.

What are the odds?

Especially ones like those in The Shield set, which are only “half sleeves,” if you will. The disc isn’t fully sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard. You can just gently lift the disc up and out with no issue.

Got some kind of a problem? All I’m asking is a simple question cause some are complaining about the aspect ratio.
