I think Leonardo DiCaprio is the best actor of his generation and easily one of the top 10 to 20 actors of all time.

Seriously. I know they have to sell the movie, but there are ways to do so without peddling to the lowest common denominator (which won't work anyway). From that ad you'd think this movie was the prequel to Wolf of Wall Street, about Jordan Belfort's great-grandad who swindled the Native Americans.

He's not totally terrible but entirely unremarkable and uninteresting as a performer. I also do not see what others see in him. There's like loads more watchable performers than him.

Unremarkable....

I could go on and on, just a few off the top of my head. I get not liking him but he's anything other than unremarkable, and he still has YEARS ahead of him.

Like who, Ryan Gosling? He’s big right now, but Leo’s much, much better than Ryan.

DiCaprio is Brad Pitt status. Nice to look at, but not much of an actor. If it wasn't for Titanic he wouldn't be the star he is today.

I must disagree about Leonardo DiCaprio, he’s a great talent. As for Brad Pitt, he’s the same as Ryan Gosling.

I like Ryan and Brad, but they’re overrated. They’re more attractive than talented, but they shown some talent.

Nah, more like if it wasn't for Titanic (and Romeo & Juliet) and that small window in the late 90s-early 2000s when he was seen as a teen heartthrob, people wouldn't be questioning his acting talent today.

I've been a fan of his acting ever since seeing him in Gilbert Grape, This Boy's Life and Basketball Diaries back in the early 90s.

It'd be nice if Scorsese works with Reese Witherspoon one of these days. I know she was the original choice for Danielle in Cape Fear.

That was Neve Campbell, actually. Reese Witherspoon was too young for the role.

It’s just as well Juliette Lewis got the role. Neve Campbell wouldn’t have played it well enough and Reese Witherspoon is now known to be problematic.

Witherspoon auditioned but she blew it when she became anxious. But I think it's odd for someone as iconic as her to have never worked with him. Maybe that Home movie will be the one.

But Reese Witherspoon is now known for being a serious diva. Martin Scorsese doesn’t tolerate that on the sets of anything he does.

I’ve often seen it listed on trivia pages that Sarah Michelle Gellar was wanted for Gangs of New York but her Buffy commitments wouldn’t allow it. Don’t know what the source of that information is or if it’s true. Anyone know?

That would’ve been amazing and elevated the film for me. Always thought Diaz was miscast and didn’t have chemistry with Leo.

Outside of that arrest incident from a decade ago, there isn't much evidence for this.

Lol, don't judge... but as a pre-teen boy I loved both Titanic and Romeo + Juliet (still do, there both on my 4k release wishlist, one down one to go ). I don't know if its nostalgia, but looking back at those roles as an adult, I still think he did a great job. He gets too much of a bad reputation for his earlier roles... but I think his talent as an actor has always been there.

I wasn't critiquing those films or the people that like them. It was just to point out that those films are what brought him mainstream popularity and gave him that reputation in many people's eyes.

Not counting very early stuff like 'Growing Pains' or "Critters 3", once DiCaprio did the one-two punch of "This Boy's Life" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" in the same year, I have been a fan of his ever since.

There's really only one or two things he was in that I didn't care for ("J.Edgar" was pretty terrible; "Blood Diamond" and "Body of Lies" were pretty mediocre). Otherwise, I've loved most of his work, especially the Scorsese films, the Tarantino films, and the Spielberg film.

I'd have given him Oscars for "Gilbert Grape", "The Aviator", "The Wolf of Wall Street", and "The Revenant", if it were up to me.

I think he's fantastic. And I love that he's not out doing silly rom-coms or comic book movies.

He's one of the only actors (now, only barely) under 50 that I actually like.

I still have this poster of DiCaprio and Claire Danes that was on my bedroom wall back in the day. Thinking of gifting it to a cousin’s teenage daughter who has recently gotten into DiCaprio.

I remember it was dismissed as being “girlie” or “gay” to be a DiCaprio fan until he started collaborating with Scorsese. Particularly around the time of Aviator it became more acceptable to consider him a “legit” actor instead of just a teen heartthrob.
