There's still a bit of it in Mi3 even in the AVC encode so it'll be interesting to see how the upscaled UHD looks.

For Australian customers wishing to have the 3 disc sets of MI:3, Ghost Protocol, and Rogue Nation, you'll need to order them in from overseas as Universal Sony Pictures is only releasing the 4K versions in 2 disc sets.

Yes, 4 and 5 contain SOME extras but the US bonus discs for 4 and 5 appear to contain the retailer exclusive content, just like what Par has done with Terminator Genisys on the US UHD.

They may be MPEG but the encodes are FAR from poor.
That’s a matter of opinion. If you think they weren’t bad quality why are you interested in 4K? They were incredibly average compared to what they could have been.

Is this a serious question?

Back in 2006 they were quite good IMO. They were among the earliest HD discs (both BD & HD DVD). Those early BDs used MPEG2 and used lossy high bitrate DD.

12 years of display tech and encoding methods have done wonders, but it's no reason to look down at them.

It kind of is actually. I remember being dissatisfied with them even from the start. Now we have tons of releases of indie movies or dramas (with releases from Criterion and Twilight Time) being legions better than a big franchise like this. Yes, you are right about the wonders of improved technology but that’s part of the point. These movies really needed better presentation.

Have only seen MI 1 and 2. Can anyone tell me if there is usually any story arcs that I might need to be aware of in the more recent films as I am considering seeing the new one at the cinema. Obviously don’t tell me too much as I want to see all the films soon

There is plenty of character stuff that continues from the previous films. Also, the new movie looks to be more of a direct continuation of the previous one. The later films are better than the first two and well worth watching.

There is a love interest character in 3 that has a brief cameo in GP and appears to have a major role in Fallout. The main villain from RN is also the main villain in Fallout. Simon Pegg's character was introduced in 3 and shows up again in FP, RN, and Fallout, and Rebecca Ferguson's character was introduced in RN and also returns in Fallout.

If you're really pressed for time, you can technically skip Ghost Protocol and just watch 3 and Rogue Nation, but Ghost Protocol is also significantly better than 3 so I recommend checking it out even if it isn't technically "required".

First two are still the best for me but I also like Rogue Nation. My biggest problem with the more recent movies is the humor, too much for my taste (I'm of the opinion there's way too much humor in movies in general these days). And as much as I love Simon Pegg, I could have done without him. Still I'm really looking forward in watching them all back to back when my UK boxset arrives.

Has it been confirmed that there will be no audio (Atmos/DTS-X) upgrades on MI-1/2/3/4. And will the box set be available in north america? or are the titles only released individually. Don't have a 4K display yet, don't know if the upgrade is worth it.......

Thanks
