Because Fox didn't make the effort to include the Atmos remix already done at Dolby Labs to demonstrate the technology for enhancing catalog titles. Yup... Die Hard already has an Atmos track.

This pisses me off.

Maybe they are withholding it to force an inevitable double dip on a box set?

It's possible.
For me, I will wait until around Black Friday (which is now like, three weeks) to see if it's real cheap. If so, I might get it.

Otherwise, yeah... I'd rather hold off getting it for now, due to the possibility of another release down the road. Maybe when the next really crappy DIE HARD sequel comes out next year or something.

Maybe.....maybe not. The specs make it seem like the old disc however they are calling it the 30th Anniversary so....who knows? God forbid they just tell us.

It is widely considered, correctly in my opinion, the greatest pure action film of all time.

It is the Citizen Kane of action films.

Except it’s not “pure” action. It’s a mix of action and thriller. “Hard Boiled” is considered the greatest action film ever made. You should invest in at least a rental.

That's odd, because MY opinionated list of the Undisputed List of All Time Best Action Films does not have "Die Hard", OR "Hard Boiled" at number one.
How odd.
My list is Undisputed and cannot be refuted, too!
I guess you guys are both wrong!

You’re absolutely correct. Such an amazing piece of cinema. They just don’t make them like they used to.

well, John Woo's latest 'Manhunt' just got added to Netflix and it's supposedly a return to the over the top flair that Woo can deliver.

I'm about ten minutes into it, but I had to turn it off. It's just... wow. The foley is hilarious; one of the women is walking quietly, but the sound effect is like she's a giant walking through the forest, crushing trees beneath its feet.
Acting is stilted, music is terrible, and it feels like a direct-to-video release the likes of Asylum pictures.
The first action scene was already nonsensical, and felt like a cheap ripoff of a John Woo flick.
Maybe it'll get better, I don't know. But I just had to take a break.

I've read similar reactions, so sad. How the hell has the mighty fallen this hard? And then we have his own remake of The Killer coming up (which hopefully will warrant a decent western BD release)...

Seen some really good titles mentioned here. For me, Die Hard, The Raid 1 + 2, Hard Boiled, Hard Target, Mission: Impossible II, Desperado, Out For Justice are some of the greatest action movies ever made.

Lol. Yeah Die Hard is great, along with Raid Redemption and MM Fury Road, but they're all a tick behind Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Yeah, it's strange how directors completely turn into a parody of themselves after time. This is more prevalent when they make a movie that is NOT their native language, and I understand a lot of that may have to do with not quite understanding the subtleties of language and how it sounds/is presented in a different language. The only prominent Hong Kong/Chinese director I can think of that consistently does a great job with English language movies (for example)is Ang Lee. He's an exception to the rule.

I like that you mentioned DESPERADO as an all-time action classic. What I appreciate about it is that it is not just a kickass movie, but that it cost $7.5 million to make. They gave Rodriguez the budget to make a low budget drama/comedy, and he turns that cash into a kickass action flick. That is baller AF!

Anyway.... yeah, uhm, "Die Hard."

I was just going to post the same thing. I personally think Die Hard is a masterpiece, but Hard Boiled probably has some of the greatest, if not THE greatest, action sequences ever captured on film.
