It's true. Roger wrote that in 1999.

Fury Road, Into and Across the Spider-Verse, Dune Part One. Miracles.

Here comes Dune Part Two.

I'm so ready.

I hope this Dune part 2 film concludes this part of the story as expected, and doesn't leave it open to extend it into a 3rd film. I think I heard this was planned as two films. That's cool. 3 films aren't always necessary to complete a story.

Looking forward to it, and will rewatch Dune part 1 on blu ray 3D again before seeing this in theaters.

I think Dune: Messiah is almost a guarantee at this point, but don't know if audiences are going to be able to embrace it, as Paul thus far is a sympathetic underdog trying to save his mother and avenge his family. Right now, he's Michael at the hospital in The Godfather, audiences really don't know what's coming.

I'm still not convinced Messiah will happen, as much as I want it to. If Villeneuve is going to make another movie or two first to take a break from Dune and let the leads age appropriately for the time jump between books, I'm not sure Legendary/Warner are going to have the patience for it no matter how big a hit this is.

I think, like George Miller, it's a bit unfathomable to proceed on a franchise without him. But if Dune Part Two is another Oppenheimer, if he passes on it, which I don't think he would, he keeps talking about it -- you're right in that Warner ain't gonna sit on that for six or eight years.

Has anyone here read what happens in Dune: Messiah? It's not the most commercial thing on the planet. Pulling that off would make Dune: Part One look like a cakewalk.

Dune Part Two is Empire Strikes Back level great. You have a lead character put to the test and rising to the occasion in epic fashion. The scale is dynamic, and Butler's portrayal is wildly hypnotic and menacing. This is greatness on every level.

10/10

Messiah is a done deal. I hope the 4th book about Dune is gonna be made too. Children of Dune is better than Messiah.

So they really are planning to do Messiah like every Trade is saying. I hope Children of Dune will be made too because we need more Rebecca as Lady Jessica. She will likely not appear in Messiah her role is minimal in that book.

I’ve read all six of Frank Herbert’s books. That’s another reason I’m skeptical it gets a green light despite how much I’d personally love to see it—though a smaller reason than the sheer amount of time the studio would have to wait. I want to see them get at least to God Emperor of Dune but that’s never happening.

[Show spoiler]Jessica is not in Messiah. She’s mentioned briefly but never seen. Her and Gurney don’t show back up until Children of Dune. Which would almost need to be its own trilogy.
Messiah will bring back someone from Part 1 though.

Curious what you guys didnt like? I didnt think it was awesome or anything but certainly solid. It meandered a bit and Im not sold that Tim Chalamet is the right guy to play Paul. Some casting issues overall.

For the record, I never read the books so really went in "clean" or whatever. Perhaps the book readers had different expectations. Dunno if either of you are book readers.

All of the sequels can and should be adapted as one film each imo.

Even the original novel, long as it is, could’ve been adapted as a single three-hour film given the right director to pull it off. But I’m still glad we got a longer adaptation that had room to let the story take its time without cutting out too much.

It’s worth noting that Legendary has both film and streaming rights, so I guess they wouldn’t have to just keep the latter relegated to spinoff shows. I just feel like longer form streaming adaptations of the later novels would need huge budgets in order to not feel like a step down from the work we’ve seen on the big screen so far.

Mike, I read Dune as a 14-year-old on a road trip to avoid talking with my father. It was an easy and fun read, I didn't see the Lynch film in theaters because it was pretty much DOA after two weeks. In Christmas 1984, Austin, TX had but one THX-certified theater and it was called - no kidding - the South Park. Seriously. Lynch's Dune was the first film to play there, but it was gone...you know what the second film was? January/February of 1985.

Fantasia. The all-digital Irwin Kostal version with Tim Matheson. My parents wouldn't take me to see it, but my best friend with stoner parents did. It was a bolt of electricity to my spine.

I've rarely had those kind of cinema experiences. Bambi. Jaws. Star Wars. The Exorcist. Superman. Halloween. Excalibur. Raiders, Poltergeist, E.T., Amadeus, Empire of the Sun, The Rescuers Down Under, JFK, Schindler's List, Breaking the Waves, Saving Private Ryan, The Fellowship of the Ring...Mad Max Fury Road, Into the Spiderverse, Across the Spider-Verse...and Dune: Part One. I love very frame of that film. It's exactly the kind of cinema I hope for when I go to the movies. We take so much for granted, but Dune makes me feel like I did as a kid utterly transported by cinema. Singin' in the Rain is arguably one of the best films ever made, and it's crazy fun and rewarding, among countless other films I admire. But Dune took my breath away.

And my parents hated it, and I can't convince my wife to watch it.

I only read the first two books and started the third but haven't finished it. To be completely honest, the books made me want to reread LotR again. The ideas presented in them are interesting, but I found Frank Herbert's writing to be dry.
