Looks like High Def Digest gave it a pretty good review.

He's got the best of intentions, and Lordy do I moan about all these reviewers having zero knowledge of film as I said, but in his case it's almost too much as he's simply not able to properly assess the video formats.
It also upset me, to say the least, when he mentioned how he preferred his print of The Fifth Element because the opticals stuck out like a sore thumb on 4K, and that they more or less blended in on the print. Yeah, sure, but they blend in so well because the fidelity of the entire movie has been brought down to the poor quality of the opticals. And now even below, considering it's a print. I would think you'd want to see more of the movie in higher quality, not have everything made worse so the lower quality parts blend in.

I read elsewhere he's using 1080p projector still? Someone please tell me that's false.

This videos description reads "4K projection" Edit: And apparently the thumbnail too. But I went straight for the description when I saw the title. Edit: ****ing hell, even the title does. I read "Home Cinema Tour" and went for the description.

Someone posted that FAH review on a 4K film group on fb telling everyone he's not buying the disc because it's an upscale. After explaining that the finished film was only available as a 2K DI (as the negative is just raw film footage and the film would essentially require a full reconstruction if it were to be re-scanned in 4K) I was told to "do my research".

I mean....LMAO.

I do love how the term "research" gets thrown around so liberally these days when in reality people are just watching YouTube videos on the toilet that do nothing but confirm their own biases.

Honestly, I fully believe they know we exist, they just think we're wrong because *insert random YouTube idiot* has however many likes on their review and they must be right if that's the case.

It's allllllll about dem likes.

Pretend to? No. They probably just don't know. Or they stay away on account of the never-ending bickering.

It's exactly why I don't think he's suited to this 4K reviewing malarkey, so much of it goes through his perspective of film, film, film and oh yeah, film that there's no appreciation for what the video version is actually doing. Yes, I do realise that these things were made to be screened in cinemas on 4th generation prints and that we're always eulogising about dat precious "film-like" quality, but (as I keep saying) we've long gone through that looking glass of having a UHD or BD transferred from the OG neg looking far sharper and detailed than any 4th gen print would ever do, it's its own unique representation of the content and should be judged as such. If watching prints all the time is what some people are lucky enough to be able to do then have it, that's amazing, but it's of little use when it comes to assessing the resolution of a home video transfer on its own terms.

I mean this is the only place that offers any democratisation to home video, the only place that holds those in the bussiness of home video to account. In case that didn't become abundantly obvious when the site went down to everyone.

You can make an endless list of cons about this forum. But those two pros will always cancel them out.

In a way I wonder if we're jaded. I so often hear people talk about 35mm projection like it's some magical thing, and I can't help but wonder what on Earth they're on about. IMAX not-withstanding, I would much prefer to see everything in Dolby Vision from the OCN (when available) than a theatrical print. And even then, I'm still curious to see how IMAX laser stacks up against 15/70.

Oh god, the great Blu-ray.com blackout of 2021. I almost forgot about that.

They're very much their own separate experience. Film has a silkier quality, in projection it's softer owing to a variety of factors as well as all the dirt, dust, scratches, reel markers etc, there's a powerful nostalgia there. But when it comes to home video they've been transferring stuff off of the OG neg as standard practice (unless it's not available or the filmmaker forbids it a la Nolan) for a good 10-15 years already and that genie is not getting put back in the bottle.

Yeah. As much as people piss and moan about this place being an echo-chamber for nitpickers, at least opinions from ALL sides can be proffered without fear of censorship unlike the platforms available to social media "personalities" who can just block anyone who dares to question their dubious wisdom. Those opinions will still be scrutinised up the @rsehole and quite possibly laughed out of town on here, yes, but at least they can still be heard.
