I thought that might be the case as you were talking about the disc overall being okay for you. Thank you for the confirmation. Looking forward to watching this next week. For the movie mainly, but also for the tech nerd in me. This is one of the pleasures from the 80's that is told so well it still works with all the cheese. And I sincerely hope the saturation is just down to tone-mapping. Maybe it's one of those really bright grades that come along every now and then, those can trip up some tone-mappers/static curves the same way dim grades can. I put on Possessor last night and was shocked to see it went all the way up to 4800 nits (according to the stats).

The lines were NOT on the Australian blu-ray, and they did ZERO EFFORT to DIGITALLY get rid of these (and you can do that).

Some reported that it runs throughout the movie, or most of it.

Your the one who’s gonna loose out then because it’s such a great set. It’s almost a blink and you miss it kinda situation. Besides the user who posted those screen shots had too much processing and whatnot on.

It's a stellar release....... so why on hell didn't they try to get rid of those? Digitally reconstruction?

Something to do with compromising the picture quality. It’s not bad at all, to be honest even though I knew it was gonna be there before I watched it I never noticed it. It’s not worth missing out on this release. VS have done a stand up job on this release. Nothing is perfect in the home movie world for example like the rings trilogy on 4k but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the heck out of it.

I didn't even notice the yellow lines on my first watch. It was only after it was mentioned here that I went back and watched it and noticed them and they still didn't bother me and no, they don't last long at all.

I didn’t notice them really. Yes they are there but I was engrossed and it didn’t bother me/didn’t notice it. It’s not worth missing out on a release of this greatness because of a few impurities. It doesn’t spoil the enjoyment, at least not in my book.

At the end of the day it’s up to you but if you love this movie like I do it’s definitely worth buying.

You might regret it if you don’t. And if it was that much of an issue you could sell it. Besides I’m sure you have plenty of movies that aren’t perfect in your collection.

They will as soon as they get their copy. Personally I don't read other people's reviews because they're not using my A/V equipment. As long and as I like the way the movie looks and sound in my home theater, that's all that matters.

I didn't notice these lines, are they in the UHD copy? I noticed the UHD copy doesn't have subtitles but do have a few audio tracks and a few audio commentaries. Overall I'm pleased with the set. Wish it included deleted scenes but until the original negative is found and able to be restored (it gets unlikely everyday) we may never know.

Regarding the warm look (I don't have the disc), colorist Marc Wielage had this to say about it on another forum:

Since Don has publicly commented and it's on the Vinegar Syndrome website, I can say I worked for 3 weeks with the director a few weeks ago to meticulously restore every shot and provide the original color that Oscar-winning cinematographer John Alcott intended. It's warmer than the original home video releases, but both Coscarelli and Alcott wanted kind of a "vintage" reddish/yellow look by using 2 85A filters throughout a lot of the production. The night scenes have much, much more detail than the original home video releases as well, so there's a lot of plusses here.

I watched the theatrical on blu-ray and then watched the disk with the enhanced FX and I honestly could not spot any differences.

I wouldn't cancel over what is basically nothing! It's never looked so good! And the box set itself is awesome.

If you're judging the color by the screen caps, you're doing the UHD a disservice. The caps are converted from HDR to SDR, compressing brightness and saturation. Neither can be judged from the caps. madVR, the renderer of choice for tone-mapping on computers, just so happens to be going through a phase where they're trying to get saturation right when tone-mapping. Right now the result is too saturated in many scenarios, just like these caps. So particularly on caps right now, don't put any stock into saturation you see unless you've tuned/calibrated it yourself and know it doesn't oversaturate. I'm in that last group, and once mine gets here (tuesday probably) I'll post if the actual image is oversaturated.

no, by watching Rad and a few little bits of this, both seem a bit hot on the saturation, but it's fine and you can always just turn Color down a few clicks if you want (OTOH DNR you can't fix even if you want to and weird HDR can be trickier to fix too, so this is a minor thing since they didn't do weird DNR processing)

Me either, that would mean getting rid of most of my collection as not every film transfer is perfect! It looks fantastic. Couldn’t imagine not having it. This is my favourite release of a very shitteeeey 2020.

The aussie bluray looks like crap. Why on earth would anyone want that over the UHD?
