How did this get a five star site review? For what it's worth, I too got the brightness errors on my setup. Contrast runs a little too hot for my taste even though blacks are somewhat thin during night scenes. Compression also looks questionable though I don't know this film too well to say something definitive. Overall not a huge fan of this release.

Aside from a couple of very brief moments early on, as mentioned in previous posts, this is a very good transfer that I was expecting to look dodgy. Frequently incredible, in fact.
The transfer/master for this, like Shout's Halloween series, is fantastic. No one is questioning that. It's the encode that is the issue.

Hmmmm. I’ve been waiting to get it at a sale price but now I’m wondering if it’s really an upgrade over my Blu-ray version? Love the film but I don’t buy UHDs just for the sake of it. The upgrade must be tangible and certainly can’t introduce issues or be worse than the Blu-ray!

If you’re not watching it in Dolby Vision. Should buyers not be able to watch it in regular HDR10? Of course they should. But is it also kind sad to go all in on UHD discs and not be DV-capable? Well…

How's the compression on the Arrow release?

Edit: the Kino looks much better, imo.

Have you tried adjusting your picture setting to get rid of the hot contrast ? If you are watching in vivid or standard picture mode you will not get accurate colors. The LG should have Film Maker picture mode. That will help make the colors more accurate. Also turn on Dolby Vision. You should see some improvements.

Looks at those purple / pink splotches on the kitchen shelf. It's shows on many occasions.

Two completely different restorations. Kino is better by virtue of new master but that's it.

I am DV capable - except my TV sucks at DV, so in reality I'm not really DV capable. I made sure to buy a DV-capable 3D/UHD/DV set. It's not my fault the 2016 LG models suck at it. I won't part with my current TV though because it's 3D and they no longer make 3D sets. So I live with HDR10 and awesome 3D. If these studios would stop borking the HDR10 presentations, and leaving DV to fix it, I would not even care that my set doesn't display DV well.

I have an E6 from that very year and, son, I don’t know what to say. While I’m positive newer sets are even better at working their DV magic, I have zero complaints about how my set handles it.

I still regret not getting a 2016 LG set for the passive 3D and DV. I had one ordered but then canceled before it shipped because I got a second Sony. And the 3D isn't as good on the Sony as I would expect it to be on the LG. It's certainly not as good as my DLP projector, which is active like the Sony.

I'm guessing you have an LCD & not an OLED?

I am seeing noticeable differences on DV (65ZD9 player led Vs. 77A80J TV led).

90% of DV I have watched have always looked noticeably better than the HDR10 counterpart. The differences are there in plain sight.

Yesterday, I started watching Charlie's Angels (2019) 4K HDR10 Lie-Max enhanced disc. 30 minutes later, played the movie on iTunes (4K Dolby Vision). Lo and behold, the 4K DV stream looked much better when compared to the HDR10 on disc when it came to colours, highlights and black levels and I am willing to consider these +ves over the minor compression artifacts.

The UH8500 is known for having bad DV. It's an LCD UHD set. It was discussed in great detail on the AVS forums, and it was never corrected.

The 3D on my set is amazing and still impresses me to this day. The DV is poor sadly. But I won't part with my 3D.
