Replaced this 1500 player for the Sony 550.
The Sony 550 player is a much better player. No need to wait for those retarded firmware upgrade. I got so sick and tired of waiting for firmware upgrade from Samsung. By the way the Sony 550 plays For Your Eyes Only. ![]() |

I just bout a BD P1500 at Wal-Mart for $199. I have other Samsung products and have always been impressed with the quality. This player is no exception, picture quality looks great, menu browsing surprised me with speed, and the bonus view feature was excellent. I have 7 BD now: Stargate, Tropic Thunder, The Mummy, WALL-E, the Fifth Element, Narnia, and The Brother's Grimm. I have had no problems with playback from any of these discs. I also tried several dvd's and had no problems there either. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase ^^.

wutup! My first post here.
anyway I also purchased the Sammy BD-p1500 from walmart for 198.00. I already have a PS3 that I have been using as a BD Player(as well as plenty of gaming) since the day it came out Nov 06'. In the last 6 months though, I have upgraded my Home Theater with Samsung 67A750 DLP, an Onkyo Tx-Sr705 and Definitive Technology Speakers. Previously I was plenty satisfied with the new firmware update in the PS3 allowing us PS3'ers to Play True HD and DTS MA, but recently I developed this major craving to have my Onkyo AVR do the processing of my BD's that offer TrueHD and DTS MA audio tracks. Hence my purchase of the Samsung BDp1500. I have about 50 BD's or so, but the first one I played on the 1500 was Hancock(TrueHD). The First thing I noticed was brief drop-outs in the audio when using Bitstream(audiophile) to allow the onkyo705 to do the processing. When switching to Bitstream(re-encode) or PCM, no such drop-outs. Also Tried playing Hancock on my PS3, which processed and played the TrueHD audio internally obviously and outputting LPCM to the AVR, with no such issues either. So I am wondering if anyone else has experienced any similar issues. On a seperate, but possibly related note, I know I need to update the DSP's in my onkyo as they are not the most up to date ones available. And I did experience whats referred to as the DTS MA "Gunshot" problem (that I have read about regarding the Onkyo 705) when playing Master and Commander on the BDP1500. Im aware that the Gunshot issue belongs to the Onkyo705(and possibly other receivers?), but am curious as to whether the TrueHD drop-out issue may as well, considering I have not read anything to that effect. I really have no need for two BD players, and admittedly the BDP1500 although cheap at 198 was somewhat of a curious purchase to see whether there are any substantial differences between having the PS3 process DTS MA and TrueHD, or having the pleasure of seeing those dsp's light up on the screen on my AVR through using the BDP1500. Pretty sure Im not the only one craving that, lol. I have plenty of BD's I need to watch in the next few days, (wanted, hellboy II,Tropic Thunder to name a few) and borrowed a friends copy of Transformers on BD to pair with mine so I can do an actual A/B test playing each copy simultaneously, one in the PS3 one in the BDP1500, switching back and forth between the two to see if I can find any noticeable difference between the two players. Ill post any findings here. (and more than likely on AVSforum as well) and look forward to hearing if any of you BDP1500 owners have experienced what I have. Thanks |

triple-x, I also have the BDP-1500 and it's attached to an Onkyo TXSR606 and using audiophile mode. I have not had any of these audio dropouts as described by you and several other owners.
the only suggestion I can come up with is to try a different HDMI cable. I don't have expensive hdmi cables either (ebay cables or monoprice), but I do have the cables labeled for HDMI 1.3 use. |

but you say "others" have mentioned the Audio dropouts I experienced as well? I have not had time to thoroughly browse the forum. |

Actually they dont say $hit about whats been fixed. I downloaded it and installed it today. Im getting leary because of people saying they updated and it was worse than before! I always have updated by cd then you have to go in the menu and change some settings as they go back to default.

well i haven't gotten the firmware update just yet, although i did get 2.0 this past Saturday. i never d/l updates for anything till ppl have tried them and there is a general consensus that they are a-ok.
anyway, aside from the previous issues i explained yesterday, I found a new one. And ohh does this one piss me off. I popped in WANTED last night. I dont have an ethernet connection plugged into the bdp1500 right now(its currenty running to port 1 of my directv HR21 HD-DVR & port 2 to the PS3) so I have not cared about nor tried BD-Live on the samsung yet, although it works like a champ on the PS3. But Anyway, I start the movie and up comes this little window in the top left hand side of the screen that says BONUSVIEW. well having previously seen it on the remote and read about it in the manual, i knew what it was, and assumed it would be similar to U-Control. However whats pissing me off is IT WONT GO AWAY. It stayed there THE INTIRE MOVIE! And yes I hit info and made sure the video and audio BONUSVIEW tracks were both OFF. I have pressed every concievable button on the remote, held the bonusview button down.. it wont disappear. are we to look at the little window the entire time? What Gives? at least if thats the case Samsung could have stuck it up higher on the black bar, so as not to interfere with the picture. click pic for full size ![]() Last edited by triple-x; 12-03-2008 at 11:13 PM. |

i had recently purchased the bd p1500 as my first blu ray purchase yippee!! this machine rocks, the load times are quick and the tray opens fast no slow down there, compared to toshiba hd dvd player i have. The sound is great as it does have optical but i only have 5.1 right now.
Just one question i have though, i have be trying to search for an answer just havent found one yet. when i go to use bd live its says not enouugh space, but when i go and try to delete it theres no option. i think i may need to purchase something else. not sure what it is any suggestions would be great thanks |
