![]() ![]() Khara want a more accurate and less liberal translation. ADV has fallen from grace with their interpretation. I really like it, that they now use "Third Children" (again) (depending on your region) and that it's now the official translation. I wish Khara would have forced the new translation on my local release too. The problem I have with my local version of ADV's translation, and especially the subtitles is, that they use "Third Child" and twisting surname/name, as well as the missing of prefixes. Quote:

Because of interest I just checked eBay.com for prices and rareness. To me the prices of the Platinum Complete set a.k.a. thinpack look pretty moderate as well as a pretty wide availability. There have been past times when prices have been higher compared to now. |

Should be noted bootlegs of the Platinum thinpak exist.
https://web.archive.org/web/20141028...ur.com/a/vUa04 The real sets were going for hundreds of dollars, well above its MSRP of $89.98. Looking at sold listings, it's been going for $65-$180+ over the past few months. No idea if bootlegs are mixed in or not. Still, despite the existence of the Blu-rays, prices are not what they were before the series went OOP in 2011. Right Stuf sold out of the Platinum Thinpak in 2013. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...g-out-of-print https://fandompost.vbulletin.net/for...ge8#post349738 Expect the prices to go back up again once the Collector's Edition is sold out for good. The Platinum releases go for more than the original DVDs, but the original DVDs can still fetch a lot. Hell, the VHS tapes go for a lot of money. Full VHS sets have been going for $270+ over the past few months going by sold listings. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...&LH_Complete=1 Last edited by BigOnAnime; 06-28-2024 at 07:34 AM. |

Like I said, I went through the listings too, sold items and items still for sell, but only for the mentioned Platinum Complete set a.k.a. thinpak. I didn't check all the listings in detail, I only randomly clicked 2-3 to see if I spot something suspicious, because I know about these fake releases too, but from a fast look all looked legit. I know the MSRP, but still, in my opinion the price range between $60-120 for the said release seems moderate and fair to me (am I the only one who think that?). Even the cheaper ones seemed to be in good condition. And if you go by MSRP, $270 (I assume US release) for a full VHS set (13 x $24.95 | 13 x $29.95) is still cheaper than new.
But again, are you willing to tell what a cheap price in your opinion is? |

Well below $100 is what I'd call "cheap". I paid $85.98 (for some reason it was full MSRP, I used a $4 coupon to knock the price down some) for the Platinum thinpak from Right Stuf in September 2013 (I already owned the Holiday Edition due to it being a Christmas gift the year prior), that wasn't cheap, and it remains one of the highest prices I've paid for a single DVD SKU in one go. My DVD collection sorted by highest price paid.
https://www.blu-ray.com/community/co...=pricepaiddesc (For anyone wondering what the heck is with Rozen Maiden being higher, the Sentai Selects release was very hard to find after it went OOP. I paid $100 for it in November 2020 on eBay to finish my Sentai Selects collection. And then months after I bought it someone else finally lists a copy that sold for like $50...) Depends on the condition of the box and such, though now's not the best time for me as I'm prioritizing for the Xbox 360 Marketplace shutdown at the end of July and IRL stuff, got upcoming old anime figure pre-orders, and my hours at work continue to be extremely random (struggling to get even 30 a week, sometimes gotten under 20, going to make so much less than I did last year). I've bought very little anime the past few months (mainly just imported Chained Soldier).

Funny, I remember paying $39.99 for my Platinum thinpack-it was a very limited sale at Best Buy. They had 3 in stock when I walked into the store and I got the next to last one-there were a few other people trying to get those 3 copies and I just happened to be faster and literally grabbed one right out from under somebody else. Can't remember how or where I got the Xmas repack set from, though.😏😑

Right Stuff was selling the Platinum Complete thinpak box for as little as $29.99 back in late 2011 (i.e. right when it was announced as goimg OOP) and I believe that's when I picked up my current copy of that particular set.
Of course within the space of three years eBay would be plagued with rather convincing counterfeits of it, which is still a major issue for less-informed buyers to this very day. |

![]() True, for less-informed buyers it's hard to tell if a copy is legit or not. But still, there are also still people that are willingly buy questionable South-East Asian releases. Different thing, but still a problem. This also goes for other marketplaces like Amazon of course. |

Which is why I went with collecting the older, pre-Platinum volumes instead (only with volumes 7 and 8 substituted for the equivalent Director's Cut volumes). Sure, picture quality may not be as good, but at least I didn't have to pay out the ass for it. Plus, I have access to the ADV dub and Fly Me To The Moon, which at the end of the day is what matters.

Back in the day, I was getting the original volumes as they came out. Never felt the need to get the Platinum Set.
Even though I got the blu rays, still holding onto the DVDs. Too used to the ADV branding and menu screens over the years to give them up entirely for HD ![]() |

Very thankful I got the Platinum Holiday Collection at 2nd & Charles used for $1.70 (it was $36, but I had store credit). Best deal I’ve gotten in my life. This was in 2021, and I still have it, even though I have the GKIDS collector’s edition Blu-ray now. It has extras, FMTTM, and the broadcast cuts of episodes 21-24, none of which are in the Blu-Ray set.
