Your interpretation on the invasion theme is interesting, and kinda does correlate with what I've read about it. I think your interpretations support it.

Gone With the Wind - 9/10

This one has gotten better every time I've seen it, this being my 3rd time. A dimensional character study against the backdrop of the Civil War. I still find the main character to be pretty unsympathetic, and I'm not sure that was intended. Rhett Butler and the supporting roles are the ones that win my heart. It's a remarkable adaptation of a lot of material, even though the second half is a little rushed.

There Will Be Blood

today has been all college football, but last night the GF and i sat down and watched one of my top 10 favorites of all time: There Will Be Blood.

i've reviewed the film before, so i'll keep it short. this film is a masterpiece in all departments

even though it isn't my favorite film, this is the second best made film i've ever seen (the first being the mighty The Lives of Others). everything i believe, is absolutely perfect. the performances (yes, even the obnoxious Eli ), the score (which is either "love it" or "hate it"), the haunting cinematography, the writing, the mesmerizing directing of the wonderful (and under appreciated) Paul Thomas Anderson and the story of one man's unquenchable greed.

loved every second of it. few films i could recommend as much as this gem.

5/5

I can't wait to see Blade Runner!

I watched She's The Man last night. It was a movie I liked watching a couple years ago so I figured I'd watch it. Although somewhat kind of corny sometimes I still like this movie. Amanda Bynes is pretty quirky but I like her and she's pretty good looking. But overall a pretty funny movie that I'm not sure how many people would actually like but I do.

High Sierra

Brilliant. Bogart in top form.

Very much looking forward to both "Maltese Falcon" and "Treasure of Sierra Madre" hitting Blu this year!

Haha yeah it was better than I expected too. It has a lot of funny parts, the double date scene is pretty funny.

I think I'll be watching She's Out Of My League tonight.

Bigger than Life (Criterion)

What a perfectly acted movie. I thought this was a great movie filled with drama and suspense. In addition it was good to see an old
[Show spoiler]Happy Ending
. I pretty muched loved the entire movie, the character development doesn't get any better than this and the story was very interesting.

You start off with a loving father and husband with a serious condition, and he only can be saved with this special miracle drug Cortisone. This experimental drug pushes this man and his family to the limits and physiological way! Very Very good story but one question to those who's seen it
[Show spoiler]Isnt Cortisone the same steroid that makes athletes go crazy?

Bottom line very great classic/contemporary film and i loved it. Must Own

5/5

This is the type of scene that you simply don't see in Hollywood films anymore, on any of those three levels.
Glad you liked it and great insight here. THe facial match was jaw-dropping. I'd never see that, except in a Kubrick or Hitchcock -caliber directed film. As Squid said about Paris T: "perfectly paced." I'm grateful for Blu Criterion, without which I'd probably never have watched many of these classics.

[Show spoiler]As I understood it, the Nostromos ship represents a body (with Mother being like the brain, the one room with the dripping water like a stomach, etc), and the alien is an infestation that kills it. The only way to remove it is to literally blow it out of the body into space.
Wow fascinating! I remember the "mother" term being thrown around and didn't pick up on what it meant until about half-way through (yeah I'm slow sometimes). I had thought of invasion more with the
[Show spoiler]human invasion of the alien egg
but can see how one could argue a secondary invasion of the
[Show spoiler] ship by the alien (voluntary or involuntarily )
.

Next up: Aliens!

I think the thing that I love best about “BR” is that the production value is through the roof. Every set and every shot is jam-packed with detail, and they all have a distinctive look and style of their own. Combined with freaky lighting effects, the cool music, the awesome SFX, and everything else, “BR” has a very captivating and mesmerizing atmosphere. I almost feel like I could be in Deckard’s shoes, moving through the city…

Of course, the Final Cut is the best rendition. This is the first time I’ve seen the Theatrical Cut; the added narrative helped in a couple of parts, but I like the film better without (I think the talking took away from the atmosphere). The Final Cut had a lot of interesting shots that I think helped a lot. Not to mention
[Show spoiler]it also had the unicorn dream sequence!
And although the Theatrical Cut’s ending is cute, I do like the Final Cut’s sudden ending better.
good points, especially the details of the sets. these are the kind of things I may have taken for granted (i.e., I was spoiled on post-BR sci-fis that copied BR, before I watched BR). I've had to be patient with BR. I wasn't thrilled on my first viewing in '07 (3/5 stars), then after a couple more viewings I crept up to 3.5/5 stars. With more viewings and Scott's commentary, I'd rate it 4/5 stars, and I especially loved Scott's commentary on the ending of the Final Cut
[Show spoiler]saying Deckard sees the paper unicorn, realizes his buddy from work was outside the apartment, and thus realizes that they're on the hunt for him and that he's also probably a replicant: only a replicant would be best at detecting a replicant
. Do you recommend the theatrical cut? Does it give an ending that requires less connecting the dots?

some of my fav moments:
[Show spoiler]
(DDL puts napkin over head): "so tilford offered me a million , i told him where he could go shove that...and made a deal with UNION...on the PIPELINE" (discretly pulls napkin off head)

(DDL drunk): "you look like a fooofoooool don't you Tillford? yeyeyeyyesssss, you dooooo. I told you what I was going to do" (downs Tilford's shot)

Oil rig on fire...score ascending...camera pans until the rig fire is a dot on the screen, within a massive black, dark night desert

DDL: "I said get em liquored up and take 'em to the peachtree dance"
Brother: "yeah..."
DDL's face: HE'S NOT MY BRO. HE HAS NO CLUE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

DDL: "Just a bastard in a basket...just a bastard in a basket...." (followed by chilling old footage of DDL and Son growing up together)

DDL: "Having you here gives me a second breath...I can't keep doing this on my own, with these....people..."

and of course the end!

The Box - Man what a weird film. I thought the acting was very good and loved Cameron Diaz's performance and accent. However I didnt care much for the story at all. It was kind of outlandish and strange. I kinda liked the ending and it made the movie make a bit more sense but overall I didnt care for it and dont care to see it again.

Film Rating - 2 1/2 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

AQ - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!
