I would not trust the open box but I'm picky.

Well took the ride up there and got the x4200. The sales man couldn't find anything but the receiver. So he was good about it and knew I made a long drive. He hook me up with a new one. Just finished up hooking it up. Now just waiting for the update for dts:x.

Yes I only have 2 atmos speakers . Sounds real good. I need to play around with it. I'm doing a 5.1.2. But I need to try a 7.1.2 or the 5.1.4,just need 2 more atmos speakers though.

My Denon can only be used either as a 7.1 or 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos...Considering that my MLP is against the back wall, rear surrounds are not an option.
For now I use Dolby Atmos upfiring speakers because of my limited setup.
I was wondering what would happen if I used upfiring speakers placed on top of my side surround speakers rather than on top of the front speakers

That is a good question and I have read that some people have tryed them at the front and moved them to the sides about ear height and liked it. I would try the up firing speakers in diff. Positions and see what sounds the best.

Would you leave them as front L/R atmos, or switch to rear atmos, or height channels? Sorry still learning all this.

from what I read you can only achieve fully immersive atmos effects when upfiring speakers are placed right abive front speakers by the front wall.

Would adding another pair of Atmos upfiring speakers in the rear, further enhance the immersive effects?

The problem is that there is no room configuration setup for that, so when you go calibrate the whole thing, what speaker configuration would you choose?

It should work pretty well. There is nothing special about front height speakers as compared to regular speakers

Yes that is true, there are some people running just reg. surround speakers as atmos speakers. If you check out the atmos/dts-x section over on the avs forums they describe a lot of diff. ways to achieve good sound. There is a ton of info over there so be prepared to do some reading.

Totally works. I am actually running Klipsch outdoor speakers as my Front Height and Top Middle. They work great and have the added benefit of a mounting bracket with tilt capability.

Awesome! I'm thinking standard 5.1 with some top middle for now.

Dolby Atmos speakers are just speakers, the difference is ever so slight just so that Dolby can claim the copyrights, beyond that any good quality speakers can be used for atmos purposes. It is more about proper setting, room treatment, and speaker placement within the room

Default Dynamic Volume: The good, the bad, the ugly

There is a lot of controversy regarding the use of Dynamic Volume on Denon receiver. What has been your experience with this tool?
After a lot of trial and error, and palying around with my receiver, I personally feel that Dynamic Volume:Light (with Dynamic EQ off) actually enhances your home theater experience by a large degree

Well Ive been using my refurb 2200 fir a little while now and I haven't had any problem yet. I ran audessey and everything sounds pretty good. Just running a basic 5.1 set-up right now but I might upgrade to some Atmos speakers soon.

So who makes good Floor standing atmos speakers. All I've seen so far are Pioneer, does MartinLogan, Mirage, or Boston Acoustics make any Atmos speakers? I thought it would be a perfect fit for Mirage speakers... Which I'm using for my rears, front and center as BA VS series bookself speakers.

The only Atmos movie I own is The Professional, and DTS X is Ex Machina... What is the advantage if DTS X anyone, is it basically the DTS version of Atmos? Any new on the update status of the 2200?

Yes I returned my definitive a60 200.00. Now I'm using some definitive Pro cinema satellite's I had in from my bedroom setup. They provide great sounds . Now I need to figure a way to angle them downwards from a shelf. As I can't mount into a wall.
