I would take good hard earned money to sit through Shawshank again. It is schmaltz slathered on thick and hard. Only Howard and the Burgs movies come close to that level of cheese.

Christopher Nolan = Deep Space Nine. Nuanced characters and deep, textured writing that takes risks.

Marvel studios = Voyager. Stock characters with a storyline that plays it safe and "character development" that gets swept under the rug by next episode/movie, or even during the same one.

TDK is still the greatest contribution the genre has ever seen after 12 years, and no amount of hating will change that.

Depth??? Great directing??? It's an ugly, pretentious mess, with one of the worst, most nonsensical twist endings in film history.

And David Fincher has done so much better. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a better movie than Fight Club!

The DVD and Video Guide put it best:

"If director David Fincher and screenwriter Jim Uhls intended to make us believe that we haven't advanced a jot from the putrescent slime that once may have spawned mankind, they succeeded brilliantly. This appalling, grotesque, and interminable endurance test is fairy-tale fiction for serial killers, imbeciles who succumb to road rage, and frustrated white guys: all the morons who seek excuses to justify their increasingly bad behavior and hair-trigger tempers. Proceed with caution."

But to all those who defended Fight Club on here, thanks for proving my point about it being an unpopular opinion.
Fight Club is one of the best films ever made. Only the salty and jealous Paul Thomas Anderson criticized it, he wishes he had half of Fincher's talent.

It's a comedy-drama movie, again not against comedy, they're against an overabundance being employed at inappropriate times.

Fight Club, had smatterings of subtle, sophisticated and dark humor, all of which was utilized appropriately and kept on the back burner when their services were not required. It showed how a life of someone can change, and a criticize on society. It's filled with epic moments from start to finish. The ending fits the tone of the movie well.

Yes, he has done Se7en and Zodiac which are better. And that easily confirms that he is one of the best active directors right now.

What defensed dude? You probably didn't get the tone and style of the film (no offense intended) I’ll suggest to rewatch it and see the audio commentary.

Fight Club isn't as clever as folks claim it is. People think it's a lot deeper than it actually is.

lol well, yes. That's the problem, isn't it? People see it at a young age and it blows their mind. If you haven't seen many movies up until that point, I get it. But these same people claim it's some amazing classic simply out of nostalgia.

12 years later and it STILL stands tall as the greatest contribution to comic book/superhero/graphic novel media the world has ever known!!!

It surpasses anything Burton, Whedon, Marvel, Snyder has ever put out by leaps and bounds, despite haters who are jealous of their favorite company or director not competing for this level of cultural relevance and quality..

Or maybe we can recognize a masterful movie directed by a very, very talented director.

Fincher, FTW.

Paul Thomas Anderson, the only person who has ever criticised Fight Club, apparently.

How many times are you going to post the same thing? You're like an alternate universe stvn1974.

We get it, Dark Knight orgasmic, MCU bad.

If you actually think Fight Club is one of the best films ever made, you obviously haven't seen very many films.

Any movie on the AFI top 100 list is better than Fight Club.

That's probably true but it is more clever and deep than I thought it was going to be before I watched it. It reminds me of Beerfest in that way. I never laughed harder at a movie I didn't think would give me so much as a smile.
