Lee maybe preaching to you but to me he's just telling it how it is whether it's not what you want to hear or not, Spielberg just shows the nice white lawyer coming to aid of poor black folk, can't you see how that would not get Lee's blood boiling.

Lee tends to be pretty blunt with his films and angry but he's in a minority, the fact that so many white directors were attached to Malcom X for so long and eventually Lee brought it to the screen, it needed to be him someone who would understand the subject, what's presented in it is not nice or pleasant but hey that's life not Hollywood.

To be honest about Spielberg I'm not a big fan of his serious work, is earlier blockbuster work is his prime, I just see too much Hollywood in his films, it's only Munich where I saw him actually not making someone into a hero for once and presenting both sides, Schindlers List is a fine film but is still not able to let the facts stand for themselves and just has to throw Hollywood devices into the mix, Private Ryan is just hollywood war film through and through Malick's Thin Red Line was far superior.

I firmly disagree on practically every note, but at the same time I def respect your opinion here since it's well-reasoned and obvious that you put thought into it.

Watched "La Haine" last night and found it very interesting. Strong characters and themes. 4/5, if not higher.

I see we disagree on quite allot but I find your arguments and reasoning always well thought out, I apologise for maybe coming in a bit strong to start with, look forward to some interesting debates in the future, I'm sorry about the Gump thing, was a bit of a cheap shot, although we agree on The Lives of Others, definitely one of the best films of the last decade, I just hope it gets a Region B release, I have it on DVD but would love it on Blu but are hesitant about getting my player chipped at this moment.

The wait will be worthwhile though, I want my Wife to see it but she keeps putting it off, she enjoys world cinema so I can't see her not liking it but would like to show it to her on Blu ray, may need to consider getting it chipped.

Will try not to be so agressive in my post in the future towards your opinion after it's only an opinion.

Con Air - I watched this film for the first time ever and I loved it! Great cast & great action! I will be adding this to my blu collection as well. Also anotha film that once it started I knew it was from the 90's which isnt a bad thing at all. Chappelle's character was funny as usual and John Malkovich was good as he normally is. This was anotha film I slept on but glad I got to see it in HD from directv. 4/5 Got Em!!

U make some good points. Hey I agree that Lee brings it to u real and while other directors can also deal with the issue, they do tend to sugar coat it just a bit. If I had to choose anotha director other than Lee I would say Spielberg does a pretty good job also but not to the extent of Lee. Yes it may be easier for Lee to show it in that raw way because he is black and being black he would have more leway to show things without as much controversy but some of Lee's films are still controversial. I applaud Lee for comin where he came from and doin what he does. Got Em!!

I am currently watching all of my Criterion movie (DVD or BD) which are not from Akira Kurosawa

Last night I watch Paddle To The Sea, a 1966 NFB movie base on the children book by Holling C. Holling. This little movie was shown often back in my school days in the early 70's. I saw it then in it's French version Vogue A La Mer. I never heard or saw it again for almost 30 years until I saw that Criterion at release a copy on DVD.

Are u being the usual Squidmeister and being sarcastic or do u really need me to explain? Ill explain anyway. When someone says they slept on a film, it could be literal and falling asleep on it but my usage of the term means that I let this movie pass me by without giving much thought to see it . Hope that helps. Got Em!!

Law Abiding Citizen - Great up until the end. I didn't like the twist and thought they could have done a better job with it. Other than that it was a pretty damn good movie.

How so mant people dont like the ending? I thought it worked because of what dude was capable of and how his ex co-worker or whoever that guy was explained who the guy really was and what he does. That pretty much told u what dude could do. I thought it worked but I have heard other people complain about it. Got Em!!

I understand that he's capable of doing it and he certainly had the time to do it and plan it and the resources but I just wanted something a bit cooler that what happened.

just watched PUBLIC ENEMIES on blu and was disappointed. There's nothing wrong with it technically or acting-wise, I just found it very
uninvolving and lacking in emotion. The entire movie was not memorable
except maybe for the very end which I thought was well done.

I usually enjoy Johnny Depp and Michael Mann but this was a lesser effort
as far as I'm concerned...

this is always entertaining to watch-- it was on cable the other day and I ended up watching the entire second half of the movie (even though I own it on blu)-- great characters, lots of quotable lines of campy dialogue, good action scenes-- just a lot of fun

Con Air as one great line, delievered by Steve Buscemi

"Define irony. Bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash."
