Remember, this is the same guy who said that Eva means nothing and that we're all crazy for analyzing it so intensely. Not to discredit Anno, but we don't know for sure his intentions.

The characters are way flatter and I have some major issues with 3.0 (even though I also love 3.0, it's complicated), but I'm really hoping the final film really brings it all together and keeps the rebuilds as a good addition to the series. 2.0 was honestly fantastic in my opinion (would have been more-so if 3.0 picked up where 2.0 left off and where 2.0 actively teased in the preview).

Also EoE in HD is a message from the heavens. I'll have to get back to you on if that message is a warning or a blessing.

I really need to get back on my JP BD based custom discs so I don't get lazy and just watch it on Netflix but I'm glad a series so often talked about and revered is going to be so easily available to help deter pirates, given that more and more people are getting into anime and have no reasonable access to Evangelion.

I don't think the movies have been confirmed as included in the Netflix release.. only mentions the episodes so far?

I don't have a source on hand because I'm at work, but I saw a few times that Rei was designed a criticism of the whole moe/waifu scenario (not so much the same as just having a preferred character). I was being a bit hyperbolic by suggesting that ALL of the characters fall under this, but was mostly poking fun as a conversational segue.

Ahh, I doubt she was a criticism on "moe" as Eva is before the whole "moe" thing.

As for Misato if Wikipedia's reference can be believed Director Hideaki Anno described Misato as "a woman, twenty-nine, who lives life so lightly as to barely allow the possibility of human touch. She protects herself by keeping relationships on the surface, and by running away."[2] He has described her as an adult Usagi Tsukino, with whom she shares a voice actress as well as hair design

Moe was my words, rather than what I'd read. Ironic decision of mine to use it as a modern equivalent because some people have argued that Rei basically began moe. Was more the whole idea of the perfect submissive girl that I was under the impression she was meant to challenge, which isn't moe, but again that's my words.

I'm not finding what I'd read in the past in the form of any direct quotes from Anno so it must have been fan analysis, my bad. I would align myself with it as analysis though, because that's my understanding of the character anyway so I guess we can chalk it down to accidentally assuming the "word of God" in my own mixed up recollection and understanding as an audience member.

I still stand by it as audience analysis, but that's not what my wording (or my intent) meant when I had typed that up.

Going through the Netflix announcement again, I'm somewhat surprised that they actually spelt out which version of Evangelion:Death that they licensed. Not that I had any doubt that it would be the "True²" version from the 1998 "Revival of Evangelion" theatrical re-release (which combined Death[True]² and The End of Evangelion as a single program), but it's still a nice touch.

Sadly if/when Evangelion gets licensed for a domestic BD release, my bet is that it'll only contain the content from Discs 1-5 (1-26 + 21'-24') and Disc 8 (Revival of Evangelion) of the Japanese set. No licensee is going to drive up their costs by having a separate disc for the original theatrical Death & Rebirth (Disc 7) on top of Revival since they'll see it as being redundant, and most of the interesting bonus features from Disc 9 (the Genesis 0:0 and 0:0' PVs among others) may not be available to license in the first place.

Rei IS the ultimate waifu because that's what she is supposed to be Gendo's wife but made Shunji's age to screw with him.(why is this beautiful girl so obsessed with my dad?!...and why does she remind me of mom?)
