Criterion commentaries, Which are your favourite's and least favourite's?
I've only listened to a handful so far so I don't have a favourite at the moment. I listened to the A Night To Remember one yesterday. Whilst I appreciate their enthusiasm for the Titanic. They just seemed to be nit picking. "they're showing too much of the model here", "they should have had more water when Baker walks out of his cabin" etc ![]() |

This I fully understand people doing. I ordered The Uninvited two weeks before release date (along with The Fly and Love Actually), the latter two have been showing consistently as In Stock, same with The Uninvited since release date. Amazon have done nothing with the order and tomorrow is the first day of expected delivery. Sitting on an order for two weeks *is* "dropping the ball", and they deserve all the angry emails they get.

and Online... but if you can do an in store reservation for the Set I would do it. I grew up in Charleston... something tells me the nearest Barnes is in Huntington? Otherwise when the sale starts on their .com site as long as the release falls under the days of the sale it will be offered at that price.

I was extremely disappointed in the picture quality. It looks like it was interlaced or something. The picture gets a 2.5/5. The soundtrack is great, but it sounds monotonous. A better variety of songs could have better captured the spirit of the late 70s. Honestly, to me, the whole thing felt as if it was taking place in a throwback 70s club in the 90s. It didn't feel very realistic to me. And the dialogue is one of those things you have to "get". I got it, but I didn't really like it. The only really memorable part of the entire film is the intro (especially when the two female leads are walking down the street). Otherwise, I though it was all pretty forgettable. I ended up selling my copy, and while I do like that I got to see it, it honestly isn't something I would want to see again. The same goes for Metropolitan. They both have a bland, dry, monotonous feel to them. I do still have the soundtrack for the former on my iPod though. |

I just got back from watching Gravity. Heres my review:
Gravity is a beautiful film. I saw it in 3-D, and if I didn't, I think it would lose some of it's beauty. The 3-D really enhances the atmosphere of the movie, which is the best thing about it. It mixes claustrophobic with that feeling that you're gonna be forgotten with awe- inspired visuals. The visual effects are great, and I can see why it took so long to make this film. It's not extremely CGI looking, just a hint. The cinematography is great. It is mainly shot in a documentary- type style, but sometimes it has POV shots (which makes me feel like I'm playing a video game). The movie rarely has cutscenes, which makes me feel like one tiny camera was watching over everything. I can really sympathize with the Sandra Bullock character and what she's going threw, so I really want to see her make it. This is why the movie is so suspenseful. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie. The music is awesome. It really sets the tone for the movie. I love how it builds up, and builds up, and builds up, and... silence. Why? Because they're in space, and sound doesn't travel threw space. I just love that. the conversations she has with George Clooney's character is great. It's very natural, and I feel like they've known each other for a while. I was surprised that [Show spoiler] In conclusion, this movie is satisfying, gripping, thrilling, and beautiful. If you haven't checked it out, go see it. 8/9 Last edited by 14728; 10-26-2013 at 11:46 PM. |
