i don't think anyone disputes DiCaprio is a serious actor. Of course he is. Now is he a great or even good one - that is what people are discussing.
In which case there is nothing to discuss. He has proven himself to be a good actor via praise from his peers, critics and notable filmmakers; his various accolades and his overall success in the business in the past three decades.

Either way, he’s not a draw for me, even in a Scorsese film. And with this runtime. I’ll watch this next spring when it’s in digital. Zero desire to see this in theaters.

Personally, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was a standout performance for LdC.

Always hope he'll surprise me though. I'm watching Killers tomorrow and thought his acting in the trailers seemed more natural than usual, so fingers crossed.
The Revenant?

I'm very much looking forward to this. It really looks like one of Scorsese's best.

He's obviously very successful, very well respected, a box office draw and has millions of fanboys.

There's at least some though willing to buck convention and admit that they do not care for him.

The fanboys definitely win this one. He has infinitely many more fanboys than detractors.

I feel like he should have won for Wolf instead of Revenant. The latter was clearly a “makeup” Oscar. Hollywood was by far his standout performance, but there was no way he could top Joaquin Phoenix that evening.

Sorry, don't know if you heard, but apparantly Leo is not a good actor.

Anyone who uses Fanboys as a descriptor for people who like something they don't looses all legitimacy in an argument

Why this soul consuming zeal for censorship? i don't see anyone else here advocating for banning words - either devotees or detractors of Dicaprio.

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dic...english/fanboy
Cambridge's definition of fanboy - a boy or young man who is a fan of someone or something such as an actor, a type of music, a piece of technology, etc.

Like literally based on the evidence of the discussion in this thread, it is incontrovertible that Dicaprio has several fanboys. Why this fake sensitivity?!

Because it's being used as a pejorative, there's a big difference, and I think you know that. Context matters.

When someone calls someone a fanboy, it implies an obsession or devotion. I think Leo is a fantastic actor, one of the best currently. That doesn't mean he hasn't been subpar or in pretty bland/mediocre rolls/films. I think every single person here who likes him as an actor knows he's not without flaw, and most have pointed those flaws out.

No one is attempting to "censor" anything, but using a term to insult someone's taste in leiu of actual criticism is lazy and dismissive.

Congrats, you can use google and give us the definition of 'fanboy'.
You know as well as I do, it's a term used negatively, insinuating that people can't see past something and follow it blindly.

Pretty sure you'll find that's not the case here.
Even fans have noted he has some misses here and there

And advocating banning of words...please....tell me, where did I say such thing. I made a statement, nothing more

I've derailed enough, back to the film.

Well, by that definition, it says, "a boy or young man". I am old as hell, so I don't qualify as a 'fanboy', LOL.

The implication is in your imagination, not in anything anyone has said.

And as a counter to that you have proclaimations of "best of his generation", "easily one of the top 10 to 20 actors of all time", "DiCaprio is head and shoulders above most in Hollywood" littered throughout the thread. That seems more than a casual fan to me, seems like adoration and putting on a pedestal

Nearly every article states when used in that way, it is indeed an insult.

You are in the minority. The majority of folks think he's a great actor, which indeed puts him on the "level" of the quotes you mentioned. You are more than welcome to disagree, but you are in the minority. When it comes to actors/actresses who will be talked about and remembered for years to come, he fits the bill, even if you disagree.

Anyways, excited to see this tonight.
