I'm not an audiophile , so I was hoping someone could recommend which type of speaker would be better for my needs. I have an $800 budget and am torn between the Klipsch Icon XF48 or Paradigm Studio 10s.

I know this is a rather unusual matchup, as one speaker is a floor standing speaker and the other is a bookshelf. Vanns is running an amazing deal on the discontinued Klipsch, so I placed an order late yesterday that has not yet shipped.

A friend has me second-guessing myself, however, as he thinks the Paradigm Studio 10 would be a better choice for my situation. I must say, the piano black Studio 10 is one of the most beautiful bookshelves I've ever seen. However, I have more pressing concerns to consider first. I currently own a Panasonic 50PZ800U, and would like to create a modest 2.1 home theater system that would be devoted to 65% gaming and blu-ray, and 35% well encoded mp3 playback. The room is a 14x12 loft so the acoustics are not very good. The right side of the plasma is where the wall is missing. Two of the other walls have a significant amount of glass. Also, I live in a town home, so I'll never be blasting the system out of respect for my neighbors.

Considering the deficiencies with the listening environment, which speaker would probably be better suited for my needs? My friend believes my desire to use the speakers heavily for music makes the Paradigm the front runner. But would the sheer size and "brightness" of the Klipsch perform better in that environment?

I'm certain both are fantastic choices, but since I was unable to demo either unit, I would really like to hear opinions on speaker type vs environment. I've seen more than one honest person in this thread turn people away from Paradigm if he or she thought the situation warranted it, so I thought this would be a good place to ask.

Thank you.

I have been on Paradigm's web site looking for in-ceiling bipoles with no luck (or I just did not see them). Anyone know if they make them? I might have to call.

Thank you.
If you go with the Studio 10's don't forget to include price for stands in your budget. I didn't like the Icons too much so I would say Studio 10's but you really should check'em out first even if your main use is gaming. For your room they should be fine with a sub though.

Good stuff Art...have you decided on the Monitor 7s then? Have you thought about uploading some pics up in your gallery so we can see your setup? Would love to see your new 370.

Yes, Congrats and welcome to the family. If you think that center is big, you should check out the CC-690 v.6, it is a front tower sized speaker on its side, or it sure as hec looks like it! It will blow you away!

You are looking at the Monitor 7's, right?

I think that this is a sign from the Gods that when the V6 comes out...you will get them.

If I do, then I won't be able to listen to them because my wife will have kicked me out of the house for good!

erict - looking at those pics makes me want to pack mine up and unpack them again.

Seriously, can't wait to see the final setup including that awesome stand you've built for yourself!

I know I hate waiting too.. When I bought my speakers last year I was told it was gonna take 2-4 weeks for my CC-690. I called Paradigm myself and the lady I spoke to took my # and called me back personally the day it was completed to tell me they would be shipping it out to my dealer. Got it in less than 2 weeks. Still it was a long 2 weeks and I hope you get yours soon especially since you already have one lonely speaker..
It'll be worth the wait though!!
