I'm spoilering this whole thing to keep this post as unobtrusive as possible...

[Show spoiler]First of all, you probably shouldn't keep repeating variations of "showing their support" over and over in the same article. Use a thesaurus if you have to, but nothing screams amateur like repeating the same words/phrases like you're a kid trying to pad out his report.

Quote:
As a nation divided begins to heal following a mass shooting that hits close to home, some citizens of the [Show spoiler] community came together to show their support of their local law enforcement agency. Several businesses showed their support by offering police officers small gifts, including free donuts and meals to officers who ate at certain restaurants over the weekend. The community support comes following the fatal shooting of 5 Dallas police officers last Thursday night.
[Show spoiler] Police Chief [Show spoiler] said,"The [Show spoiler] PD has a really good relationship with our community."
He also mentioned, "While several businesses and members of the community did bring by baskets of good, small gifts, etc, that the department was not asking for free stuff. They are just happy to be appreciated."
The days following the incident in Dallas has seen dozens of communities demonstrate their support of the police officers in their lives.
Both [Show spoiler] and [Show spoiler] Chamber's of Commerce shared public posts on social media expressing their support for their respective police departments.
At the start of the [Show spoiler] City Council meeting on Tuesday [Show spoiler] Mayor [Show spoiler] called for a moment of silence following the pledge of allegiance to "demonstrate support for those officers lost in Dallas and our local officers."
President Obama gave a speech on Tuesday at a memorial service for the police officers that were shot and killed at a demonstration last Thursday, July 7.
"Like police officers across the country, these men and their families shared a commitment to something larger than themselves. Cops don’t expect to hear the words 'thank you' very often, especially from those who need them the most." he said.
Former President Bush, speaking at the same memorial had his own comments about the work uniformed officers do for their communities.
"We know that the kind of just, humane country we want to build, that we have seen in our best dreams, is made possible when men and women in uniform stand guard. At their best they free us from fear." Bush said.
According to other media outlets in the area, there has been a strong showing of support in Texas communities for their local law enforcement officers. The responses in [Show spoiler] and surrounding areas has also been a positive one.

[Show spoiler]As for the mistake in the quote, here's what I was talking about:
Quote:
He also mentioned, "While several businesses and members of the community did bring by baskets of good, small gifts, etc, that the department was not asking for free stuff. They are just happy to be appreciated."
I'm assuming he actually said "baskets of goods" not "basket of good," which would make that your mistake, not his.

"The days following the incident in Dallas has seen..."

"Days" is plural - you should have used "have." Better yet, you should have used a better turn of phrase. What you wrote was fairly awkward and it really doesn't make sense to say "the days have seen dozens of communities demonstrate their support." It's also clunky to tack on "in their lives" to the end of that goofy sentence. It would make more sense to say something along the lines of "In the days following the incident in Dallas, dozens of communities have demonstrated their support for their local police officers."

Chambers should not be possessive.

Quote:

You left out the other comma, which should go after the word "memorial."

Again, the subject's plural, so you should have used "have" instead of "has." Also, how can you end that sentence with "a positive one," which is obviously singular, when you're talking about "responses," which is obviously plural?

I'm sorry, but this was well below professional work.

If you didn't have permission to post it, then why did you?

Not really, since he wrote the article.
Anyone can grab that paper and see who the author of it was.

Right, but it's a small local paper without any sort of online presence and we don't know where he lives. I can completely understand him not wanting to broadcast clues that would lead people to discover his real name and where he works.

77 dead.

Driver sped up as he hit the first people, drove 2kilometers before the police killed him.

Truck was carrying weapons and explosives.

Is being labeled a terrorist attack.

Fireworks celebrating Bastille Day had just ended and people were leaving when it started.

**** this! 2 days don't go by without another terror attack. Impossible to really fight them. Regardless, I hope France scores a few extra kills in the coming days.

Sick of all the terrorist attacks. Bunch of pussies who think they're making some kind of statement. It'll be put to an end soon enough.

Yes, but why put Spoiler Alerts over top of the four hashtags that have been used to replace the town's name? Why not just use the hashtags?

It was just easier that way, keep it clean.

I have to say that I didn't really mind seeing Melania Trump's face all over my Facebook news feed today. It didn't bother me all that much to have to look at her over and over again.

So, hopefully she'll be the subject of more scandals and trending news stories over the next few weeks.
