Here's how it breaks down usually... Duties are calculated at 6.5% of the total price of the item(s), brokerage is a flat fee, should be around $35, and shipping seems to be about $1 per lb.. I found they were very fair and if anything, it should be less to get to you, since you are closer to Tenessee than I am!

Good luck, and remember to bug Sarah til she gives you a better price!
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind and will definitely be persistant with her.

That doesn't sound promising. I'll wait a few days and then I might give them a call instead.

I was kinda quessing on the 40%...good to hear its potentially quite a bit less than that.

If it's 30% let's say, then it'n not a bad deal considering I'd have to pay 13% HST in Canada on any product anyway. So to add another 17% for duties and shipping isn't so bad.

Yeah, it's all how you look at it; Emo amps are so much less to start with that even importing them is still worthwhile.
I really like that they don't even calculate exchange on what you buy. They just say $799 US = $799 Canadian. I really appreciate things like that.

And, I know it's been said before, but I really could never justify spending more on what to me would be a negligible difference... just my opinion..

I have only ever experienced fantastic service from Emotiva and can't recommend them enough on that merit.

Really? Now that is pretty cool and saves a few bucks. Thanks for letting me know about that Starmartyr!

I could be wrong, but I don't think that's how it works. I'm pretty sure they charge you in USD, and the good old Visa/Mastercard etc will take care of the conversion....

That could be; I guess I haven't checked on if the charges match the quote closely or not yet!

They did say they would refund any excess shipping/duties etc since they charge the actual amount they get billed.. that's kinda nice but I guess I'll have to find out what the actual charges are.

John. I purchased an XPA-5 a couple weeks ago. I also purchased 5 x-series cables and black trim. That was a little over $900 US. Add in shipping, customs and duties, and 5% GST(yes I'm lucky) and it came to a little over $1200 CAD. That's the total charge on my card. So 26-30% on top of the US price on the website is about average, but should definitely be considered before purchase.

I am going to fall into the same category as the both of you ,

Hi guys, I have finally decided to part with my XPA-3. I'm going to go for the XPA-2. My fronts are rated for 250 watts per channel and I wouldn't mind having the extra headroom. So if anyone is interested in it feel free to send me a PM. I'm going to list it on the for sale thread tomorrow.

Put it up in the Emotiva Lounge. It'll sell much faster than it will on here.

I love having 4 ohm speakers because I don't have to get as expensive of an amp to get the watts you would for 8 ohm speakers. I'm already getting the 300 watts out of the XPA-5 for my fronts and center, 200 for the surrounds, but I'm interested to hear your opinions on now powering your speakers with 300 watts.

I think it's definitely important when you're looking at ordering gear that doesn't have any or much reviews/input on the web, and you don't have a good option to audition that isn't going to cost you any money.

Otherwise, if I were picking up something at my local hi-fi shop who allows me the opportunity to audition in-store and/or take their demo models home for a week with a refundable deposit, then specs aren't as big of a concern to me. Sadly those shops are dwindling, and the closest one to me is now 60 miles away (a big contributing factor to why I turned to Emotiva). I can otherwise look at specs all day, but it won't tell me anything about how the amp will sound. The sad truth is that even if one of the main goals of an amp is to be clean/transparent, that isn't always the case, that's why hearing an amp is more important to me.

That said, one of the first things I definitely look for first is the type and size of the transformer, and how much the amp weighs (I'm strictly referring to SS amps, btw). That IMO is a good way to tell an amp that can back up its numbers. Obviously that's not scientific or even true 100% of the time (and probably much less than that), but I like to use it as a rule of thumb nevertheless.

I'm not sure how that forum would treat a new member trying to sell something. I'm not a member of that forum yet. I will definetly post my impressions if I'm able to sell my XPA-3 and get the 2

I've seen new users post there, and they still sell. If you have an eBay or Audigon rating you can link to that will help.

I know I would be a little timid to buy from someone who just joined this site and was trying to sell stuff, but that's just me

Just give them pictures from all angles of it off and on to show that it's working and the condition it's in.

Then put a price, if you're willing to bargain, say so, if not put "firm" after the price.

They treat new members very kindly on there, just make sure to supply pictures and answer questions. Too much information on it is better than not enough, so put as much information about the condition and such.

Like stated before, if you have eBay or something with feedback on it, just put on the description a link to your page showing that you're a trustworthy seller.
