I'm alway surprised that titles tend to sell out a lot faster in the UK. Does the UK just have better taste in film? The US has a population that is like 5 times larger, so surprised more units are not moved there first.

I guess people from all over Europe buy the UK stock.

I really would like to believe that but I think is not the case in general, speaking about Radiance target, not all bluray collectors. I mean, I'm afraid that US market has more options/labels to get, so unless Radiance grants a biggest name overturning a mastodon like Criterion, or gets a incredible success/hit with one title, it's pretty normal than US Radiance units be sold slower than UK counterparts... ![]() Cheers, |

I got Man from Majorca on the strength of having thoroughly enjoyed Bo Widerberg's previous film Man on the Roof, and having watched it, I have to confess to being rather shocked by the end, which felt almost like an entire reel was missing before the credits rolled.
[Show spoiler] I suppose it's a bold way to end a film in the genre, only I can't say I was satisfied with it.![]() |

On another note I watched Themroc last night and loved it, a unique film with an immense Piccoli performance. Something very Pythonesque about it, in a good way. Enjoyed A Tale of Sorrow of Sadness too, not an entirely fitting title for what is a colourful and entertaining film. Possibly my favourite of the handful of Suzuki’s I’ve seen, the supplements reveal a lot of behind the scenes issues resulting in a film that’s decidedly surreal and off-kilter, but it works. |

Caught up on some Radiance releases over the past few days, and ended up watching both the Hardboiled set and The Eel.
The Hardboiled set was good, with the standout film for me being Police Python 357. Love these kinds of crime dramas where the events start spiralling out of the control of the main character, in this case the copper played by the great Yves Montand, and you’re always kept guessing as to what kind of resolution there’ll be to everything. Serie Noire was OK, the standout really being the fairly manic leading performance from Patrick Dewaere, whilst Choice of Arms was again watchable thanks to the excellent cast, but it probably was a tad overlong. Absolutely loved The Eel. Mostly a drama, but had the occasional bit of quirky comedic elements thrown in, mainly down to the oddball group of characters who gradually befriend the lead character after he moves into the village seeking a fresh start having been released from prison. Koji Yakusho is brilliant in everything I’ve seen him in plus Sho Aikawa puts in an appearance, which is always cool. Might not beat Vengeance is Mine as my favourite Imamura, but it certainly runs it close. |

I really enjoyed the Hardboiled set too and it made me hungry for more in this vein. It's a shame it didn't include La Menace.
Police Python was terrific, just loved how everything unravelled as it went on and Montand was fantastic. Serie Noire was the stand out for me. I've wanted to see a good presentation of this for years and it's such a manic unhinged film at times. It's one of my favourite Radiance releases so far. As noted in the previous post, I found Choice of Arms a tad too long and there were too many characters and subplots. The performances were all great but Deneuve wasn't given enough to do. I couldn't help feeling there was a real classic there if it had been more tightly structured. Still, a very enjoyable watch and the supplements on this set make it a terrific addition to any collection. |

I actually enjoyed The Man from Majorca more than Man on the Roof. The
[Show spoiler] is the whole point the film is trying to make about high level corruption.
