And that’s awesome you have a working old laptop. My point was the continued free upgrades and support directly by Apple. You won’t get that with most consumer based computer companies. If you do cool, I’m just referring to direct consumer sold models and Microsoft’s history.

I’m not really into bashing Windows as hey, if it works for you sweet. Apple makes solid, well made computers and I think the cost is justified for the support and system they offer.
I'm not at all knocking their computers. My parents just got a new iMac since their late 2009 model was having some problems and wasn't worth the cost to repair. It's a fine computer, especially if you want something easy and simple that you can just turn on and start using. I'm simply pointing out that Apple devices are very expensive for the hardware you're getting. I'd really love to see more developers moving towards Linux as I think their software has both Apple and Windows beaten. But it is what it is.

If you take the iMac Pro, for example, and compare the specs to a similar built computer they are nearly the same price.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.zdn...-new-imac-pro/

I’m unsure how a PC isn’t a simply turn on and use item, if that’s what you’re equating Macs to. Never had a PC or Laptop that it just didn’t turn on and go...

Linux isn’t widely adopted by designers and editors so I doubt it’s going mainstream anytime soon.

——

At the end of the day what works well for someone may not work for you. But I don’t think Apple is overpriced and their support, OS and build quality is worth a few extra bucks. Even comparison with similar items shows that they aren’t charging much more and you have to consider the warranty they give you that’s pretty awesome and easy to use.

If you’re just buying entry level you may not see the big difference but mid level and higher are nothing to sneeze at.

I guess I'm trying to say that for new users, Mac OS is easier to use than learning all of the ins-and-outs of Windows or Linux.

One of my biggest concerns with Apple computers is that you really can't open it up and work on it yourself, much less open the case and blow the dust out like you could with a custom PC.

Yeah at the end of the day, people like what they like and it's just different ways to arrive at the same goal.

You can remove the screens and repair should you need to, but there’s no need to open the case to blow dust out. It’s not getting in there if the seal hasn’t been breached on the screen, and that’s not happening without some kind of damage.

But yeah, I agree it’s all about the users needs. I appreciate that this was a friendly back and forth. That needs to be more common in the digital and pc debates.

To go slightly back on topic I was just thinking about how many classic films I watched in the early 00s via an ugly 25 inch crt TV and using the ps2 as a DVD player.

Now my screen is 40 inches larger, but don't let steedeel tell it

Yeah, I remember watching many VHS movies on my 13 inch TV back in the mid to late 90's.

Then watching Full screen DVD's on my 19 inch TV in the early 2000's. (and my DVD player back then was also my PS2)

I had sets like that for quite awhile until the widescreen TVs started to become cheaper and my parents bought one. Even there, I thought DVDs looked fine until I watched a Blu-ray on a 1080p set. I've watched a 4K UHD disc on a 4K set and yeah it looks very good, but I personally am fine with a Blu-ray disc or HDX stream from VUDU. I guess it depends on what looks good to you.

I fail to see how I "destroyed" the thread.

Some of my posts were off topic, as is the one I am quoting from you, but I made those remarks during a lull when no one was talking about anything at all.

Further, you were always welcome and free to interject at anytime with anything you wanted to discuss, such as you are now with your reminisces about watching classic films on an old 25 " CRT TV.

I am far from being the only member to go off topic. I, too, have shared my memories about watching movies on old CRT TVs. Most of the off topic discussions have occurred during periods of slow, or even no, activity on this thread.

If you find my posts to be annoying, tell me why and I might address the matter to your satisfaction, if I find merit in your complaints. I actually value criticism that I can benefit from, so if you can offer any specific areas for me to improve upon, I would welcome them. Failing that, you also have the option to place me on your "ignore" list.

You did a fine job working in two swipes at two forum members in a single post; me at the start and Steedeel at the close. Anyone else you care to call out today with your vague aspersions?

Good day to you, sir.

You didn’t destroy the thread at all, just my opinion, but I think the guy gets a bit twitchy when he hasn’t insulted someone in a 24 hour timespan. Just my guess like!

Thank you for that.

I even indirectly welcomed him back to the thread on April 24th after his long absence. I encouraged him to contribute more.

I did not intend for that to come off so harsh, but I also do not come to this thread for multiple pages of PC talk.

Fair enough.

But by all means, talk about what you want to talk about. Chart whatever course you like.

The thing is, if nothing is happening, where is the harm? Those posts are only taking the place of inactive days.

That happens all the time in every forum I've ever been on, and I've been guilty of doing it myself, including here. It's just one of those things that happen when, as you say, there's a period of inactivity on the thread.

Not that I otherwise mind off-topic tangents, but how exactly is the old (currently) outdated TV that you used roughly 18 years ago in any way on topic, even slightly, with the present day state of physical vs digital media?

I have not posted here in two days. I thought that would be enough time for it to recover from the "destruction" I brought upon it.

I see that flyry has purchased Die Hard on 4K UHD. Good choice; I did likewise.

I also see that he plans to sell the included blu-ray disc and the digital code in an effort to recoup his purchase price.

I thought he adored codes, loved them even. Why sell the beloved code? Is it a duplicate code? And if he already had the code, why does he want the 4K UHD disc? I thought he felt that the codes were just as good as the discs.

Just curious why such a fan of codes, and digital in general, would get rid of one and instead choose the 4K disc?

And for him to call this a "4K (UHD) catalog dream month" seems surprising, also.

Yeah, that is weird. It's almost like he sees value in both and decides on a case-by-case basis whether to go disc or digital.

It takes all kinds, I guess.

Ironically, the people that moan about off topic posts normally don’t post themselves even a few days after the complaint. . Hence we have a dead thread for two days.
