And while the compression apparently isn't as good, what good is the best compression in the world if the underlying transfer is obscuring all the extra detail it would've provided in the first place.
And I think it's also important to note, that the compression talk is based on a couple of screenshots aloop posted that he was very upfront that he specifically selected - and when he came back after watching the entire thing, he said:

"It does look fantastic! I didn't offer any judgements on anything aside from the compression in my original post because I hadn't actually watched it yet, but now that I have I am very satisfied with this release."

and...

"Yeah the compression is not great in the screens I posted (though keep in mind that the screens I posted only represent 3 frames of the whole movie), but it's still a large upgrade in pretty much every other area!"

Somehow, that all got lost with people freaking out that it must be some sub-standard, terrible release, before they have even seen it.

I think we have seen exactly zero people who actually have seen both the 4K releases of this film and think the Lionsgate one is superior. I'm sure there will be some, but the folks that have actually seen this disc so far don't seem among them.

I'll be happy to post screenshots, but I don't know how to convert HDR to SDR. If anyone could explain that to me, I'll share away. I've got the disc ripped already. I'm capturing to PNG with VLC.

The first screenshot is the one that concerned me. It had awful macroblocking.

Yeah, I don't have the disc yet, but judging by what I've seen so far, looks miles away better than the Lionsgate colorless transfer. The film just looks lifeless. It was better than no Halloween in 4k at all but now its "better compression" can kiss my hairy butt. I'm SF 4k transfer all the way.

Yeah, it's clearly not an issue with the entire film. I threw this frame into photoshop and intentionally blew out the tone just to accentuate the grain structure. Very healthy and organic structure here. Again, this is NOT how the disc looks while playing the movie, I made it bright on purpose just to show off the grain.

The blocking is there in the shape by the clothesline shot, but it's important to keep in mind that the motion on the sheets in that shot is so fast that I seriously doubt I'd have ever noticed it if it hadn't been previously pointed out and I'd stopped intently and freeze-framed to look for it.

I think Movie Trading Company is getting them on Tuesday. They are charging $29.95 each though.

all 5 arrived from bullmoose in mint condition, they shipped part 2 separately but it was in a box and came at the same time as the others... I really like the slipcases as well, I much prefer these to the standard slips... about 30 mins into this and it looks great so far

Good job on that. Glad I was wrong. Everyone can buy with confidence now.

Actually I was already in this camp even before the screenshots were posted.

I’ve seen hundreds of UHD discs and I think this the second worst HDR10 compression I’ve ever seen (behind only the French UHD of The Limey), and that’s based on watching it in motion with my own eyes. I found it intensely distracting and it’s so bad that it actually obscures fine detail at times, the most extreme and consistent offender being every time they show the house across the street where Michael keeps bringing his victims - the porch is a blocky, freezing mess and, as a result, looks much more poorly defined than it does on the (very good) Lionsgate UHD.

Obviously not everyone is sensitive to compression issues, and I’m sure the vast majority of people won’t notice or care about this. But until I get a setup that can handle Dolby Vision, I won’t be going back to this disc (unless I decide I just can’t stomach watching it with remixed audio, which is very possible lol)

I have always seen them a mile off, and the shots are terrible so in motion it must be beyond bad
