I agree. I find Godard movies mostly cold and sterile. I really like Weekend. But others I find myself just going meh afterwards. I still have more of his post 60’s work to watch so I’m gonna see if that changes.

But if we talking French New Wave then.

Resnais & Varda > Truffaut and Godard

I’m more of a Left Bank fan than the Cahiers du cinéma crew.

He's rated higher in studiobinder, filmsite and cinemaarchives.

Anyways, yeah he's slowly going up but still has enough time to produce more quality films or rank a bit higher in the list.

Nolan was added two years ago, I mean 7 years ago Fincher was at the 213th place.

Not like it matters as it's not a law, but just a ranking from a film site.

He might be higher if people could hear the dialogue in his movies.

https://www.filmsite.org/greatdirectors-totalfilm.html

Lynch being higher than Nolan or other directors like Fincher in a list does not bother me. I like how someone used that list to attack Nolan.

I don't know why some people mistook Nolan as my favorite director.

1. Scorsese
2. Spielberg
3. Coppola
4. Nolan
5. Fincher

Does a list really matters though? If I recall correctly, in a contest some people voted for McTiernan over Cameron yet he's not in the list.

When did i deny that Lynch is rated higher than Nolan?

He's also rated higher than Cronenberg everywhere but that stops people like me or others of liking Cronenberg more?

Tarantino is rated lower than Scorsese by a good margin yet some people like his movies more than Marty's.

It's all a personal preference, isn't it?

You see, you've just admitted to everybody within the same post that it's not as simple as that. You've just said that people talking about one of your favourites prompts you to talk about MCU.

Because he was propping up the MCU to downplay Inception.

It's simple as that. If someone criticize Inception, then i just defend the movie itself.

If someone says Inception is bad and that X MCU movie is apparently better. Then it's right to criticize the movie that i personally don't like. Isn't it?

Same way if someone hates Malick, i don't waste my time with it.

So you'll waste time defending Inception if someone says Thor 2 is better? But if someone dislikes Malick, you ignore?
Maybe you should try that trick with Nolan. (And Fincher for that matter)

Not exactly. I don't need to defend ANY movie unless someone is saying "Inception is trash, Thor 2 is better etc". Basically, for the sake of criticizing the movie.

What i mean is that if someone dislikes something then it's his opinion, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Feel free to give some constructive criticism, nothing is perfect.

But if extreme hyperbole and unfair criticism (in my opinion) are being done, then i'll defend the subject.

Interstellar didn't bother me, nor did Dunkirk. But his ADR of Bane was laughable.
And Tenet was disastrous. But sound is the least of worries for that one.

Dear Nolan. Please make a film with less sci-fi elements and in linear time.

Thanks.
Your Biggest Fan.

You're going to be saying "It's as simple as that" every time you add another new clause to justify saying the same thing over and over again. Aren't you?

Everything else is up to a personal preference.

Especially if other rankings have Cameron up, and the gap closer between some other directors. It's not a 100% correct law to follow, but just a list.

Huh?
You don't need to defend any movie unless someone is stating their subjective? seriously. Stop and re-read what you're typing. It don't add up.

Also it's not hyperbole to like Batman Returns more than Dark Knight Rises.
To make this easier, what's hyperbole? Not the definition but what criticism is hyperbole to you?
