NOTE:
Good evening everyone, This thread is dedicated to discussing Criterion's output, not questioning certain members about their film preferences. So, I would like to kindly request that after this post we all make the effort to act like mature individuals and try to have a productive discussion. Furthermore, in case this has not been mentioned before, this is a thread that is closely monitored not only by members of Blu-ray.com, but also by different content providers. ![]() Thank you. Pro-B p.s. Beta Man, please feel free to clean up the personal posts that were produced earlier today. Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 05-06-2010 at 01:57 AM. |

I'll be getting the Seventh Seal and Wings of Desire Saturday. Buying them from another member on this site, and I can't wait to pop them in. I only have a few Criterion movies but so far, so good!
nothing fun to chime in on the last few pages, just announcing my excitement ![]() |

Sorry Pro-B and again especially to Beta for having to delete this stuff. Also to the wonderful content providers, without you, we are nothing. And to my mom and my dad (well my mom) for raising me better. And to my fellow posters, without you I would be talking to myself. And that would stink.
![]() ![]() Okay, on topic of Criterion, sort of and to follow my last question, Anyone watch any Paul Morrissey films other than Flesh for Franky and Blood for Dracula? |

i'm very green on Criterion, but so far so good.
Che Monterrey Pop Collection Monsoon Wedding Curious Case of Benjamin Button I'm missing another, but alas I'm not home to run over to my collection and look. I've seen maybe a dozen and a half criterion films but haven't really been buying movies until blu-ray. Seventh Seal has always been something I've heard about and never seen anywhere, so I'm most excited about it. |

That being said, you might want to backtrack even further. In doing so you'll see that Flyfisherman merely stated that SS is one of the greatest films of all-time, a popular and hardly controversial opinion. You and your crony can twist the words if you'd like and you can support CG in his seemingly endless negativity, which has been apparent for far too long now, if you feel the need to do so. That is your prerogative. However, it detracts from a thread that many enjoy due to a mutual appreciation for classic film. Today was an exciting day for those that enjoy Criterion films and films on a more general level. No need to damper it just because your friend likes to hear himself talk. |

A few people have mentioned Malick's first film Badlands as a title they'd like to see released. Since Malick has only made four films, with the fifth to be released later this year (potentially), it seems likely that it'll be released at some point. The fact that three of his films have already been released on blu, with two being Criterion, seems to bode well. Days of Heaven is his most beautiful but uneven film, The New World is his most maddening but ultimately rewarding, The Thin Red Line is his magnum opus, in that it represents the most effective conveyance of his cinematic ideals. Badlands is undoubtedly his most straight forward, despite providing a solid basis in his use of voice-over and nature's idealism. It is a film I've always admired and I do hope to see it on blu sooner rather than later.

![]() I highly recommend watching Gommorah, one of the best films I'd seen in 2009 (Technically it's 2008, but released in the US in 2009). I figure this won't convince you to watch it, but I'd urge you to try it out. It tells five short stories about those living within the Camorra, one involving a young delivery boy, one a waste mangement graduate, another involving a clothing designer, a coward in debt, and a couple of wannabe gangster teens biting more than they can chew. The stories, which are seperate from each other, each could warrant a thought provoking mini television series, even if they are short stories, but what makes it so potent is it's merciless direction, which grim events can happen in seconds, not epic and long encounters or gunfights, and believable actors, giving a certain realism akin to a participatory documentary, even if it is staged. I highly recommend seeing this, but it's different from the work of Scorses, De Palma or Coppola. |

So what do people think of Antichrist being one of the titles announced? I, for one, am fervently disappointed by it taking a spot. I think that while the direction is quite effective, the movie itself is wholly repugnant and pointless. There is no true theme presented by von Trier, which leads me to believe that the sadism was much more for shock value than anything else. Of course, von Trier is an extremely polarizing director, as is the film. I would much rather have a film from some of the other major foreign polarizing directors, such as Bela Tarr or Tarkovsky.
I honestly can't imagine who would want to own Antichrist, but I'm sure there are people that do (just like with Salo and Caligula). So...anyone excited about its release? Or, do people side with my opinion? |
