The monster has awaken from his sleep. ARHHHH!

Anyway, since fighting each other over movie taste is wrong, we should make guesses on Aug releases.

Confirmed:

Josef von Sternberg silents (either in a spine # box or Eclipse. Prob no blu.)

And guesses that could fit for summer:

M. HULOT'S HOLIDAY (New DVD/Blu)

Someone woud like to add to this? The Thin Red Line maybe?

Im still hoping for that Kwaidan release, though my guess is they will release it the same time as Hausu.....October possibly?

releaselists.com has The Thin Red Line listed for Aug 17, though the original tweet said 17 or 24.

I'd say Antichrist in Sept, given its hint was given a month after the red lion.

Seven Samurai has taken so long, I have to believe it will be announced soon.
For August, maybe?

Guesses for August:

M. Hulots Holiday
Thin Red Line
Seven Samurai
Y Tu Mama Tambien

I'd love to see a BD for M. Hulot's Holiday - that would be a perfect summer release. I'm also hopeful for Nolan's Following to be announced soon (perhaps not until Inception's BD release this Fall?). Of all the IFC titles, Following is the one I was most interested in.

Wow...that is too strange!

I bought copies of both of those movies about a week ago and they are sitting "unopened" on my BD shelf at home (haven't had time to watch them yet...will definitely see "Wings" this weekend). Got them both with the Borders 40% off coupon ($23.99 sans the tax). I went on (2) consecutive days and they were the only Criterions on the shelf (each on a separate day).

I'm missing another, but alas I'm not home to run over to my collection and look.

I've seen maybe a dozen and a half criterion films but haven't really been buying movies until blu-ray. Seventh Seal has always been something I've heard about and never seen anywhere, so I'm most excited about it.
I'm a relative newcomer (compared to the others on this forum) as well. I went from (1) Criterion DVD a few years ago, to (9) Criterion BD titles.

I'm REALLY looking forward to "Wings of Desire" as I've already seen Wim Wenders other BD of "Paris, Texas", which FLOORED me. What a great movie! If "Wings of Desire" is half as good, I'll be very pleased. I've added Wenders to my list of favorite directors.

If you wind up liking "Wings", I would highly suggest "Paris, Texas".

I also own Che and the Monterrey Pop Collection...quite happy with Che.

If you can find a copy (try EBay) I would also suggest "The Third Man".

CG will be happy to know that I also own a copy of Pierrot Le Fou...I did buy it and The Third Man , since they were/are going OOP...but The Third Man is GREAT and Pierrot Le Fou is slowly growing on me.

CG...you guys might make a Goddard fan out of me yet!

Hey CG...any suggestions for another Goddard BD title?

Hulot's Holiday would make me very happy. Great summer film

Well, I would say Masculin féminin but it's nothing like Pierrot, and if you want a blu-ray, it's only on dvd at the moment. If you want another Criterion blu-ray of Godard, get Vivre sa vie. Also if you want more of a "fun" Godard, try Band of Outsiders or Breathless, though they are not my favs, but very easy films to like. I just listed Criterion-only since that is what I thought you wanted.

YES!

Mystery Train is one of a number of great films by Jim Jarmusch.

Jarmusch uses a vinette approach with his movies. They are typically intelligent and humorous and emotional (Night on Earth being a prime example).

Jarmusch has a few Criterion titles on DVD, but Mystery Train is the first on BD and I am awaiting it's release with baited breath!

If you are unsure, it might be worth a rental and/or see if it shows up on TV, as his other films have in the past.

Not CG, but you might want to look into MoC's Un Femme Mariée BD. Quite nice. (Surprised there's no entry for it in blu-ray.com's database.)

A little pricey via amazon/uk, but you can at least save paying postage via this link. (Currently that's about $24.33.)

There is.

You must not have your settings set for the UK releases.

Finally got around to watch Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo!

I love the movie, although it's more fun than emotional, unlike Ran, which I'd kill for to get the Criterion treatment. Figuratively speaking, of course.

I think the transfer of Yojimbo is very good, but the unresolved black levels in the second half tempered my enthusiasm a bit. Detail is amazing, and the super high bitrate which averages at 38mbps guarantees a rock solid transfer.

Has anyone else noticed the Grayish black levels in Yojimbo, since the reviewer must have been getting some snacks during those night scenes?!?

Can't wait for The Seven Samurai to hit Blu!!

I wish Criterion got the rights for Ran!!!

Good afternoon fdm,

As ccflix has suggested, please make sure that you have all boxes in your site preferences checked here:

https://www.blu-ray.com/community/settings.php

...so that you could see news, pre-orders, BD product info, and reviews from all regions.

Thanks for your suggestions CG!

I had considered "Vivre Sa Vie", as I'm trying to stay with BD films. I just checked out this website and saw that "Breathless" is Region Locked (Region B), otherwise, I might have taken you up on that suggestion.

Thanks fdm!

$24.33 with free shipping isn't bad at all. About the same that I paid for copies of "Wings of Desire" and "The Seventh Seal" at Borders with a 40% coupon.

I'll let you know if I bite on this one!

It's a compilation of a few scenes in the movie. While you won't get that exact composition during the film, the cinematography is quite notable for it, so if that's your thing definitely give it at least a rent.
