Yes, he developed a very good relationship with Randy Shannon. Once we fired him, Bridgewater decommitted.

I agree the bowls don't really count because of the lag and such.

But it's such a double standard.

If the SEC dominates the Bowls: "See, we told you so!"
If the SEC doesn't: "The bowls don't really count, the SEC is still far and away the best conference."

College football deserves the BCS, because results on the field don't matter. "Experts" will spin it to show exactly what they want to believe.

I disagree with that statement. One or two great teams does not mean you are an elite conference. There has bowl busters that ended up winning games, but that doesn't mean the entire conference is elite. SEC is struggling this year, and of the Big 5, the ACC is actually doing the best!

You always have to come to play, no matter when or where the game is. If anything, the extra time to prepare should help you refine your game, not distract from it.

This is so true. You should have heard Mike and Mike on ESPN, Mike Greenberg basically says if the game was in the November Florida would have crushed them. They are making the Suar Bowl sound like the Papa John Bowl are something, that was a big bowl game Florida didn't show up for. Clearly you could see UF underestimated Louisville, after every play UF would get up and talk trash. They wanted to be there enough to talk trash after every play.

I really hope Chip Kelly stays at Oregon. I just don't see him as an NFL coach.

People overreact far too much to a handful of bowl games that occur 6 weeks after the season ends. Upsets happen all the time in college football. Florida was a 14.5 point favorite for a reason. I suspect if these teams played one another 10 times the Gators would win 7 or 8. Upsets like last night just happen from time to time.

Yeah I think people always make excuses when the SEC lose's game they shouldn't. I never said Louisville was better, but gave the team respect that won. Don't give me all the excuses on why UF lost the game, they didn't want to be there in all the crap. This same UF team all most lost to Lafayette and
Missouri at home. UF defense is awesome but there offense is not. So to say Louisville had no shot to win is crazy to me. The SEC is the best, just when they lose give the team respect that won the game.

It still just blows my mind that the major college bowl games happen 5 or 6 weeks after the last regular season games. The NFL playoffs start this weekend. Imagine if the NFL decided to start the playoffs in mid to late February instead. That's what college football is like. And the 4 team playoff we'll eventually get will probably do nothing to prevent that.

The players need to hit the books sometime in preparation for final exams. NFL players have no such limitation.

Then why does D2, D3 and NAIA all have 16 team tournaments with no need for such a long break before the postseason? Are you saying D1 players are incapable of doing what every other division of college football does?

+1000. I forgot that the Cotton Bowl was tomorrow. That is just crazy that they do that, only plus I see is for teams to get healthy. Teams like Oregon had a lot of injuries, so they getting a big chunk of there players back on D. That was one of the main reasons the Big Ten wanted a Championship game, remember the Big Ten last game use to be early November. So they use to have like a 45 day layoff between there last game and the Rose Bowl.

Charlie Strong was on Jim Rome today. That guy says all the right things. He said a major factor in his decision to stay at Louisville was that he felt it would be abandoning the players he recruited. That's something you practically never hear anymore. Just about any other coach in his position would have ditched Louisville weeks ago before the Sugar Bowl and be in Tennessee or some other SEC school by now.

totally agree with this 100%.

i have been arguing this same point with everyone who says, "a play-off system won't work in college football".

i went to jacksonville state from fall '89 to spring '91 where i was in the marching southerners. my first year there, the football team went undefeated in the regular season and went all the way through the play-offs undefeated as well. we lost in the championship game 3-0 on a cold, snowy day; but that's a different story. the band was there at every single game (home, away and during the play-offs) and we still had to go to classes during the week.
so it can be done. it's done every year in the lower divisions.

and i think this goes with the whole "6-6 teams are eligible for a bowl game." and now there's talk of making it so that teams that are 5-7 will be bowl eligible. so have a losing season and you get rewarded with a bowl game.

as i've said before, i think they should change the rule to make it be at LEAST 7-5 to be bowl eligible.

and i know that we're going to the play-off system after next season. but i also think THAT should be changed before it even begins. i think it should be changed to 16 teams, then anyone else who's left that has a record of at least 7-5 will be put into a selection pool for the following bowl games.

sugar bowl
rose bowl
fiesta bowl
orange bowl
cotton bowl

and maybe a couple others. just no more of these "here's some money, i want a bowl game named after my company" bowls that's only be around for about 10 years.

AND, i think that if you make the play-offs and lose, you don't get to participate in a bowl game.....you lose in the play-offs, you're done. some people will look at this as punishment for making the play-offs, but it's just the opposite. making the play-offs is the reward for being one of the top 16 teams. winning the national championship is the reward for winning the play-offs.

Well ya, but that's why D1 players just go for flunky degrees that don't translate into real world jobs anyway. I swear every bio I read on college and NFL players says they went to school for a degree in General Studies, Liberal Arts, Communications or Physical Education. With that kind of education it's no wonder they all go broke soon after retiring from the NFL.

K-State's defense looks like they are running on adrenaline.

No way they keep it up all game.
