the coldest i ever dealt with was -35 the wind was so cold you couldn't tell if it was hot or cold it mad your skin burn like hell. and it burned your lungs when you breathed fun timesi do miss the snow at Christmas , even though iv lived here so long now its just not the same .
but being able to play golf year round helps. and if we want to see snow we drive to north carolina and ski a few day then back to mild temperatures .

The price seems to be about what I was thinking, actually it’s a little less. While the NAD 316 is cheaper.

What do you think of the NAD 316/546 cd player combo compared to the NAD 326/546 cd player combo?

This will be just for upstairs and not loud or to impress anyone. Maybe some nice music for when reading the paper, having dinner or just sitting back and listening.

I heard the NAD C316BEE IA and C515BEE cdp a few weeks ago. I was very impressed with them both, I got to hear the Paradigm Atom v6 and Series 7, the Epos ELS3, PMC DBi1, B&W 685 all at the same time on that combination. At moderate levels it did fine, and I was in a small bedroom sized room, so you didnt need much volume, and the listening levels were very low. I really felt that the 316/515 combo with the Digm Atom V6 would be a very good $1k setup.

I would strongly suggest that you get the 326 and the 515 over the 316 and 546. The 326 can power into 2 ohms and has more headroom just from listening to it. A torroidal power transformer, sub out (just in case), pre-outs (just in case). When I heard the 326 it was at a different dealer but powering Dali Ikon 2s, and I was surprised that it had balls for being so cheap, this is where my NAD radar was turned on, and why I looked at their AVRs. The 316 was nice at lower volumes, but lost itself a little at higher volumes with difficult passages, esp where bass came in, either that or it was the speakers, but the PMCs are not cheap, $2200, and I doubt that it was them, Id say it was that the little guy ran out of steam.

As of now, I’m not sure if I will get the RX1’s or RX2’s. What is changing my mind? Well I was thinking about Aces idea to upload a vid. I was thinking how I would setup mine, since I don’t have an external DAC.

I ended up making some changes to my settings that I haven’t done before, or I thought I did, but it sounds as if I didn’t.

In my settings:
Subs set to ‘No’
L&R set to full
I use Stereo -- Battery was weak to mess with any other soundfields
Messed with the treble&bass

With that, I may get the RX2’s now. I should say, when the time come, I will compare the RX1’s to my already RX2’s.

Also, I don’t think I want an external DAC any longer for the basement, still would like to compare, but I don’t think I need it… Audyessy was very nice using stereo.

Honestly the dac/analogue sections of the flagship models don't require you to need and external dac. In all honesty if not for the naim needing a dac better then my Sonys, I wouldn't have got one either. If I compare the rdac to the integra dac, the rdac is better, but I could be just as happy with the integra. For you guys with the top of the line models, you have 6 dacs in your units, giving the front channels their own dac, that's awesome.

If we are talking about your 2-ch setup upstairs, my suggestion would be get a good IA like the NAD 326 and a good cdp, then you won't need a dac. A good cdp would be Emotiva, NAD, marantz or Cambridge in that $350-400 price range.

We are talking about both... When I mention getting the RX1's or RX2's, they are for the 2channel upstairs(whenever that will be).

Tho the PS3 was just sounding great, I do want something different or a little better for CD's or USB input.

I'm thinking, if using the 'Pure Audio' is the only way to go full range and have the subs on or off, without having to go into the settings and mess with it, then I would have to get a nice DAC.

Oh, I did forget to mention, I pulled the port plugs out on the back also when messing with the RX2's. Pulling the plugs is just for the vid, when/if we do what Aces was talking about. I will have the plugs in when watching movies.

That's another thing about listening to 2ch on my HT setup, besides changing settings from HT to music inside the Onkyo, I would like to remove the plugs out the rear. I haven't tried moving the speakers from so close to the wall with the port plugs removed yet, I am wondering how that will sound.

The front stage is great, when I was messing with the settings, at one point I was thinking I screwed some things up....

I was thinking "What in the heck did I do?", "Why is the darn center channel playing with the stereo selected?", Of course I had to smack myself in the head for being a dummy at that moment. Man sitting in the sweet spot with 2ch music playing, will mess with your head in thinking that center channel is on.

the issue you might find taking the port plugs out will be that you might get boomy bass too close to the wall.

How come you never bought speaker stands?

for upstairs, I would just think about that as a whole different setup. keep them seperate.

Because the subs and the stands occupying the same spots. Not possible. If you remember, I use to have the speakers sitting on the subs.

I don't want the L&R any further apart or the subs closer or further apart either.

I do want my L&R lower, I want all three tweeters lined up. I will have to redo the shelf they sit on.

My son has been into Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmations lately or anything else with talking dogs. Sooo sick of hearing the Selina Gomez Cruella Deville song.

you know, my daughter, the oldest Jill, she was always into 101, Nemo, Shark Tale, and Little Mermaid, when i got the old vizio, I put the tube in her room so I didnt have to watch them anymore, thats why they have a tv in their room, now they watch Degrassi, Good Luck Charlie, Jessie and whatever other pre-teen shows that 5-10 yr olds watch now a days. I need a new BDP(wont be a panasonic) for the bedroom so I can put Cars on in there so I dont have to watch it anymore.

I know what you mean about not wanting to mess with things. I've thought about measuring the response of my speakers upstairs but don't think I will. I don't want to know as there's nothing I can do to change it.

I use my IA in Source Direct, no tone controls and just let it play whatever it's going to play. If I know that the bass has a hump of 10db for example then I'll always think about that. Better to just leave it alone and just enjoy.

If your putting together a small system upstairs Hamp just get a descent IA and a cdp that can except files via usb. That's all I'm using upstairs, although my cdp doesn't have a usb input. They're not really high end components either, I think I paid $1k for the pair.
