btw, what settings do you use on your LG? I've noticed that higher brightness/sharpness can make otherwise natural and pleasing grain turn into a grotesque blanket of despair. |

I have motion settings/extra processing junk turned off. Sharpness is at 0. I think brightness is at the default to whatever picture mode I am on. |

I tired to find the answer to this but was not successful, apologies if it has been answered before though.
Is the blu that comes with 4k a remastered edition (asking because I dont have 4k capability yet but would spring for the 4k set if it had a remastered blu like I did with Unforgiven)? |

I watched this last weekend with three of my friends at my place.
I must say, it is quite amazeballs. If I was to make any kind of complaint, some of the outside scenes are a little TOO bright. For example highlights from overhead lamps or lighting fixtures that produce highlighted outlines of bodies and faces tend to get a little "hot" with HDR. It's never outright overexposure, but there were numerous occasions where I noticed that even though there is extra brightness in a face bathed in light, or around the shoulders, etc... that the color balance was spot-on, detail was righteous, and the blacks were solid A.F. My buddy said "Man I don't want to watch this movie on my TV anymore. It just can't look this good." |

I watched this on my crappy 4k TV (OLED upgrade coming soon...I think. Leaning towards black levels and no motion blur over LED HDR brightness) and was still blown away! Detail was amazing and the grain was delicious. I will have to wait to comment on the HDR and black levels. I wish Sony had more of my favorite catalog titles. I was not going to upgrade Leon as I already have the re-mastered Blu-ray, but they are making it tough on me.

Had this for over a month but finally got to watch it last night. I hadn't seen it since the 90's (I hated it) but it is one of those rare movies that has somehow aged really well. The absurd acting and satire just seems to play much better now than it did then, and it's kind of a remarkable achievement how consistent the tone of this movie is given how bizarre and gratuitous the whole thing is.
Anyway, it looked and sounded great. It jumps pretty close to the top of my favorite catalog UHDs that were shot on film. Maybe not quite up there with Leon and A Few Good Men, but it certainly holds its own. Special effects and CGI held up surprisingly well. Glad I decided to pull the trigger on this one since I wasn't sure I wanted to see it again, but it was definitely worth it. |

![]() What I love about Starship Troopers is that it plays like a bad made-for-TV movie, with laughable dialog, an overly simplistic story, and over the top violence. So for me, it works on the "so bad it's good" level. However, the underlying message is driven home even harder as it addresses timeless issues such as government control, population brainwashing, objectifying/dehumanizing the enemy in time of war, the overly simplistic corniness of forced war propoganda, etc... I love that it works as "dumb, stupid gory fun" and yet also has a plausible and well executed message to deliver. Last edited by KcMsterpce; 01-16-2018 at 12:27 AM. |

It's such a well made movie in many ways, and while the acting is terrible it is terrible in such a consistent way that it I found myself impressed and endeared. It's like they realized Denise Richards couldn't do any better if her life depended on it so they all scaled down to her level, and it makes the movie feel like something special. It must have taken a lot of hard work to get the feel of this movie right. I think the best moment that really captures the tone is in a late-movie scene [Show spoiler] Incidentally, I found myself thinking of "The Room" a lot while I watched it. Also, it was great to see Carver from The Wire. |

The grain, yes please, but more than that it's the detail which floored me and so those pictures prove. A while ago I had a back and forth on another forum with some goober who insisted that the UHD's detail was almost identical to the Blu-ray. Nope then and nope now.

I played STARSHIP TROOPERS for a party in July. My buddy insisted - out of more than a thousand movies to choose from - that I play ST. That was the blu-ray.
For a Christmas party, I put in the 4k UHD. On the same TV. It's my friend's favorite movie, and so I turned the volume up a "little bit" so the movie could be heard, but we could still hang around and chat. Everyone was like "Woaaahhhh!" My buddy said he went home and tried to watch ST, but it just wasn't as awesome and he had to turn it off. Other people, I guess, just don't notice it as much. Apparently. |
