Great price! That's what I paid for mine. It's a good step up from the 3200.

So if I want to get XT32 I must pay a $500 premium to get the X4200, seems like a lot! Also the X4200 is the only one which can support 9ch active if I want a 7.1.2 Atmos setup, correct?

Is there any news on what features will come in the 2016 models? I think they should be announced very soon right? Pioneer just announced their models.

I think prices on the 2015 line will drop even further then.

Hello everyone,

I have a few question about Dolby Atmos

Hopefully I am asking this question in the right thread!

I am in the process of upgrading my home theater and recently purchased a Denon AVR-S910W receiver which is capable of 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos.

I also purchased the following speakers:

-Polk Audio TSX 440T (fronts, x2)
-Polk Audio TSX 220B (Rears, x2)
-Polk Audio TSX 250C (Center, x1)
-Polk Audio PSW505 (Powered subwoofer)

Now to my Dolby Atmos questions, I am currently considering the following Atmos speakers:

-Pioneer SP-T22A-LR Add-on Speaker designed by Andrew Jones for Dolby Atmos
Amazon link:

-Pioneer SP-BS22A-LR Dolby Atmos Bookshelf Speakers
Amazon link:

-Onkyo SKH-410 Dolby Atmos-Enabled Speaker System
Amazon link:

1. As I understand it, I can connect either of these three Atmos speaker pairs to the Surround Back (R) and Surround Back (L) speaker connectors in back of the Denon AVR-S910W for a 5.1.2 speaker configuration. Is that correct?

-Picture of the rear of the Denon receiver:
[Show spoiler]

2. When not utilizing Dolby Atmos, would either of these three speaker pairs become part of a 7.1 set-up? Or, would my set-up become 5.1 with the above Dolby Atmos speakers unused?

3. Finally, would the above Dolby Atmos speakers sound o.k. with the Polk Audio speakers I purchased? I've read so much about not mixing your speakers that it crossed my mind as a concern so I figured I would ask even though I know this question might be better answered in a different thread.

All of the above purchased gear is in transit and I thought it would be cool to add these Dolby Atmos speakers to my new HT system when I set everything up (hopefully this upcoming weekend).

I am upgrading from a Yamaha HTiB so this is all pretty new to me. Any assistance to the above questions would be much appreciated!

I dont recommend using that set up because you willget minimum Atmos effects that way.
The best way to take advantage of Atmos is with in-ceiling speakers, but next to that option, the next best option is to install front height speakers.
Since you are a Polk user, I recommend you get a pair of Polk Audio OWM3 or OWM5 and install them up high on your front wall, on each side of your display/screen. That,my friend, will add that 3RD dimension to the soundtrack when playing Atmos content.

So height would be the best way to go? What I currently have are Polk t15's to use for heights will that work?

any wall mount speakers would work, but since you have Polk it would be nice to have Polk speakers all around.

By the way I too have a Denon 910 and for a while i was using Onkyo upfiring speakers. But the Atmos effects were underwhelming until i switched to front height speakers since i am not allowed to ceiling-mount in this property

Yup RockyIII , I'm on the same boat. I'll try setting up the Polk's to heights tonight. Any suggestions on the height levels?

as close as possible to the ceiling, pointing down to your main listening place, and in line with the front speakers

Awesome! Thanks for the advice!

I didn't think of the Polk Audio OMW5. Actually, those would work perfect with my set-up and space limitations. I will be ordering them soon.

I just installed some OWM3's to my ceiling last night right in the atmos Top Front position. Luckily I had a joist right along the approximate place where I wanted to put my ceiling speakers. I hung them with two screws in the horizontal position, slid them on and wedged a shim behind them to angle them slightly and keep them from sliding off the screws.

Be warned though...My wife freakin hates it, but bam! atmos speakers! without cutting holes for ceiling speakers.

ceiling speakers are the best for atmos...But height speakers mounted up high on the front wall shooting down at you are pretty close in effectiveness

Question for Denon owners:

I recently got a Denon X4200W and have been doing the atmos set-up and tuning and it keeps on asking me to download a firmware simply called "Auro3D".

Is this update necessary? Especially considering I am in an atmos Top Front, Top Rear layout.

I was under the impression that Auro3D cost 200bucks to install and use. The firmware update makes no mention of a $200 charge. I am unfamiliar with the Auro company and don't know if they would do something shady like send me a bill if I downloaded this.

Bottom line, is this update necessary or should I just ignore it?
