Kids. They forget there was no internet around when the Original Trilogy was in production. Except for some production stills that came out a couple months before the movies did I had no idea what was going to happen in Empire and Jedi other than what they had showed in the trailers.

These instant gratification demands just show how A.D.D. the current generation really is, and when they don't get their way they throw a fit and resort to name calling and other sorts of rude behavior. Depressing.

The secrecy around this film is not something new!

We barely had a clue how Avatar was going to look, until some 6 months before the film opened and the first pics of Neytiri and the Na'vi emerged. Now that's secretive, considering that film was in production for years up until that point.

I remember the mystery surrounding Eyes Wide Shut as well. All the crazy rumors that got started, because people simply didn't have a clue what the film was about, apart from 'a sex orgy or somethin'.

Disney's CEO Bob Iger:

"It was a decision that was made by a few people who are involved in the process; [Kathleen Kennedy], who runs Lucasfilm for us, and J.J. Abrams, who's directing the Force Awakens... were involved in the decision, as were we. We feel great about the film and can't wait until it comes out."

Oh. These emoticons, while cool, can be pretty deceiving can't they? Yeah, I have been bad in the past about spoiling films for myself before watching them, but am definitely trying to get better. I think it's great that Abrams is keeping things close to the vest until the proper time closer to release.

Iger said the film so far has exceeded their expectations, and that the film will be what Star Wars fans have been waiting and hoping for. Make of that what you will. He got a big silly grin on his face talking about the title in a video interview with Bloomberg, saying he wants to recapture the feeling he had of seeing the first films, and give people that kind of "unforgettable" experience.

I think Iger will be right. Dont forget that Abrams:
1. made two of the best Star Trek films with a cast that had such great chemistry
2. made a Spielberg-type film with Super 8.

If there is any director that can make Star Wars seem better than the original trilogy, Abrams has a high chance of doing so.

Not a fan of Abrams doing both Trek and Wars.

I was never a fan of Bay having the keys to all of these popular franchises... but I hope Abrams surprises me.

Lol. That was my thought too. Cuz we all know that Iger would have said something negative about his cash cow if it wasn't up to snuff

Not only that, but even after people saw a film, they kept their mouths shut. I probably didn't see Empire until at least a few weeks (maybe even a few months) after it was released and I had no idea that Vader was Luke's father until I saw the movie.

I saw the original Star Wars months after it was released (although still first run), in fact I saw it after I saw "Close Encounters..." which was released six months after Star Wars on November 16, and aside from knowing that there were a few robots in Star Wars and that it was a high-production value throwback to Flash Gordon serials, knew absolutely no specifics about the movie, even though I had probably read the NY Times and Variety reviews.

In retrospect, I really liked it better that way. Internet trolls and Amazon reviewers are killing movies before they're even released. We're making directors' live miserable and soon good directors aren't going want to direct anymore - at least not the kinds of films that get talked about on the web. I'm all for good and valid criticism that's backed up by knowledge of film, literature, history and critical theory, but most of the criticism is either of the "you suck" variety or that based on absurd trivialities. How many thousands of posts are there about lightsaber colors being wrong?

One of the reasons why we're so critical of movies is because we already know everything about them before they're released. I think keeping as much secret as possible about VII is a good thing, not a bad thing.

If that troubles anyone, they should go to their room, close the door and play with their Luke Skywalker doll until the movie is released. No matter how good or bad it is, I'm sure they'll be a war on here either way and people who have never created anything in their lives will state definitively that J.J. messed up the plot. (And I can't wait until George becomes the hero again and people start writing how his movies, including the prequels, were better.)

Well, that certainly gives me peace of mind.

I have been trying so hard to avoid any spoilers.

The only thing that has killed the unknown factor of upcoming movies is the invention of internet. Before internet, we got movie news and rumors in articles in magazines or newspapers.
