But yes, it’s definitely true that bitrate on the HDR10 layer alone should be more than enough to provide a good encode. But like I said, it’s like they just check the result in DV but completely ignore the HDR10-only results. Sometimes I wished they just used MEL, that’d way they’d see how the compression would look in HDR10 since DV MEL is just metadata (which is what Arrow uses in their DV 4K discs). |

since my oppo and lg oled had the dv bugs ironed out I haven't watched a 4k disc in hdr10 since, checking this disc was the first time I have turned off dv in quite some time... just curious but are there any scenarios where hdr10 would be preferred?

I still rock all my Anchor Bay Blu Ray discs, always feels like 2007 in here. Masters of Horror Volume 1-4, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Evil Dead I and II.

Not necessarily. Maybe it would depend on the source? Amazon Fire Sticks were notoriously bad because they were programmed to run at a flat 24 fps a few years ago and that caused all sorts of frame rate issues on whatever TV I was running at the time. I tried contacting Amazon and of course their CS reps know absolutely nothing, but I believe if you google Fire Stick Frame Rate you'll see lots of issues. I've since upgraded streaming and display equipment, so that issue is gone for me.

I’m expecting the release of these movies tomorrow to be a complete cluster****.

Someone from Disnee is leading that charge against non-integer frame rates and so it’s not a surprise that several recent D+ shows have been finished out to and streamed at 24fps exactly. |

what player do you have?... I had this happen a couple of times when my stuff first got dv firmware updates, I had to switch the hdr setting to "tv-led" on my oppo 203 and it hasn't happened since (tv is a c7 oled)

I fixed that by replacing my LG OLED with a Sony A9G. The LG would always dim on dark scenes from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and then I would have to bring up the info tab or the picture settings to 'wake it up.' God, I hated that TV.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...179007&i=3&l=0 Worth noting that I think they have incorrectly labelled this as 100nits, as this scene appears to be what I get at 150 (also their sky is brighter and grainer than mine looks, which can be achieved through highlight recovery, measuring each frame's peak luminance, and possibly a custom curve, though all the rest of the shot is the same as 150nits). Just a little disclaimer why our screenshots differ. I had highlight recovery disabled and measure each frame's peak luminance disabled. Here's an example of what I mean with the compression though: ![]() What a difference a few frames makes! (Again, not a dealbreaker for me. Just worth pointing out. It's much harder to spot in motion) Always take screenshots with a pinch of salt, kids. Last edited by Rusty100; 10-05-2021 at 04:28 AM. |

Has anyone bothered looking at the blu ray in this set? I know it must be awful and simply ghastly to even put your 4k fingers on such an inferior disc, but seeing as how BD.Com didn't really bother saying anything about it, just like to know how it fares against the 35th edition.
