Re: Chapter Skipping past the
[Show spoiler]Han cameo and the Kylo-emerging-from-pit-and-saving-collapsed-Rey...

I'm not expecting to convince ANYbody about my admittedly wildly-eccentric edits, but the fact is: I just prefer my movies to be more subtle than they're makin' 'em today. Both those beats are ALREADY THERE in the film; I don't need to be walloped over the head with them again and again.

[Show spoiler]Han beat: we can already see the turmoil within Kylo, regarding how he feels about being healed by Rey and how he feels about not being able to "go home again" to Leia. I don't need to see an entirely stylistically-inconsistent "head ghost" of Han to drive those points home, emotionally OR literally. That moment is NOTHING more than an excuse to have Harrison Ford in the movie; there is no precedent at all within the Saga for that kind of psychological ghost.

End Rey/Kylo beat: Kylo has already come back for Rey, by showing up on Exegol at the key moment she was going to give herself to Palpatine. He sacrifices himself by joining her side-by-side and then getting cast into the pit. His arc is complete; his purpose served. Likewise, Rey already "rises" when she's lying on the ground and calls upon all the Jedi to help her. There's NO reason for her to collapse AGAIN after the fight is over. Oh, and I disagree that it's a tear-jerking moment when she collapses; it does NOTHING for me emotionally.... obviously, lol. Like I said, that beat has already come and gone.

That's my 2-cents. My edits are for my eyes only; again, I don't "edit films regularly" like a madman, lol, and I never expected anyone else to be "on board" with these particular choices... but man, FOR ME they make this flick so much better. These edits literally raise my "1-to-10 rating" of RISE OF SKYWALKER from a 5 to a 7.

He's well into his gaming and stuff, he cut way back on this place. I don't know if we've heard from him during the lockdown but yeah, I hope he's doing okay.

Yeah, it's just not a decent thread if we don't have both Geoff and Stinging weighing in. I, too, hope he's alright.

The '11 blus come out on the subdued side there, but that's probably because I'm a caps-a-holic.

No, but the subsequent blu-ray included many original cuts and the final cut.

It's nothing to do with needing to be saved by a man.

And you lose all of the mirroring and inverse mirroring of Anakin and Padme and some of the core message of the entire 1-9. Look at what Anakin did to try to save someone and what Ben did. You lose the entire hook into to Mortis and The Daughter (and where a female saved a female, not that it's relevant there either). You lose a key part to the end of the Anakin and his offspring story. Get rid of her sacrifice. Ben still hadn't truly fully returned to the light until he sacrificed himself. Not sure we've ever seen someone 100% fallen to the dark come back completely without sacrificing themselves. And it wasn't until then that he finally got some peace and got it and fulfilled the destiny.

And it doesn't even do what you say, since Ben already returned earlier and helped a bit. And by the time you cut the following part out, she has already defeated the Emperor and accomplished the goal.

the can't go home thing didn't even come up until Han showed up

and it would be kinda extra quick and simple if all it took was for Rey to heal him and that act alone boom he goes back to the light two minutes later

Leia was still using the last of her strength to touch Ben and get him to 'see' his father and still pulling trying to get him more back to the light and he had to make peace with his father before moving on

Right on, my friend... I hear ya. Literally every point you elucidated in BOTH your posts, I already "get" in the movie without the scenes I'm skipping. We're going to have to agree to disagree on this. I feel incredibly passionate about my "skipping" choices; it's literally the difference between me kinda loving this movie and not even wanting to see it again 'cuz it's so melodramatic and "on the money". We simply have different tastes, you and I...but I do hear you and I do appreciate your response. I honestly... truly... get ALL that, fully intact, without the scenes I've dropped -- just in the performances and the nuances of the over-arching war between good and evil. Really... it's all already there. <shrug> Anyhoo... like I said: agree to disagree. Hope we can move on without EITHER of us -- definitely me included -- hijacking this thread any further.

May The Force Be With You.

There's a scratch on my Ep II disc, and I had some trouble getting it to play but I finally got it to play. Has anyone heard of a return program for individual discs? Or am I better asking for an exchange of the whole set?

From what I've seen in the various threads, many MANY people had one or more scratched discs. I believe they are doing individual disc exchanges. I recall someone stating it took about 4 or 5 tries to get one of them w/out any scratches. I will let someone else who might know the specifics reply.

Got around to finally watching ROTJ last night. My God what an improvement over the 2011 Blu-ray! The 2011 Blu-ray was a bit iffy in some spots as far as quality goes, but I was blown away by how great the 4K disc looked. I saw ROTJ SE back in 1997 in theaters and I don't remember it looking as good as the 4K disc!
