Yea man some people dont take Martin seriously cause he does a lot of comedies but I bet he would do damn good in a serious drama also. I wish he would do more drama type films cause in the comedies that he is in, there are certain serious parts and he is spot on. Got Em!!

Seven

year: 1995
director: David Fincher
starring: Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman

it's odd for me to review Seven. i'm a big fan of David Fincher's work. i'm a big fan of the thriller / horror genre, and i love the seedy, disgusting world he has created here and i'm a big fan of Brad Pitt. but, for whatever reason, Seven to me isn't the pinnacle of supreme success that so many claim it is. just look at the review written for the film on this very site, reading after watching the film for the first time in about a year or so and i'm baffled as to how one reaches some preposterous conclusions... but to each their own.

anyway, one of my biggest puzzling questions about the film is Pitt's performance. i can't place if it's genius or terribly bad. he seems to have a few personal quirks that he displays in most of his characters and they are very present here, early on in his career. the problem though is he comes off as cocky, arrogant and brash, which is the point since he is the opposite of Somerset who is calm, smooth, quiet and peaceful in his actions, but there's something about either how Pitt's character is acted or written (maybe both) that at times makes me roll my eyes. almost NONE of what he says is funny, so if he's comic relief, he fails miserably. but just taking him as a hot-headed young detective who wants to make a name for himself? that's understandable and i can live with that.

the set up of the film is discovering each of the seven deadly sins that are unknown killer is conducting. for those of you who are big in the Saw franchise, it certainly seems those writers / creators watched Seven, a lot, and made Jigsaw into a hybrid of Seven's mastermind.

the end has one of the classic lines of dialogue and a major twist that many i'm sure won't see coming (i never, ever even suspected it). and while i loved it, and the complete puzzle is better than the individual pieces, certain aspects of the film still stick out to me as either "rushed" or done poorly.

and to be honest, the first time i watched the film i really was more interested in seeing what the next sin would be and what it would look like than any of the characters or who the killer was. i don't know what that says of the picture, maybe i was just foolish back then (first time i saw it was, i'd say, 15-16?), but the film never really grabs me like a thriller / horror should. it's done well. but it's far from a masterpiece on any personal scale.

4/5

finally got around to CHANGELING

wow..... and I thought MYSTIC RIVER was upsetting! Who would have thought that Clint Eastwood would have a talent of directing such dark dramas (that are also excellent) ?

This was Jolie's best performance of her career-- she was outstanding. Everything else from supporting cast to photography to script to direction were all typically top notch from Eastwood-- what an incredible career this man has accomplished-- always one of my favorite actors but now also one of the best directors of all time....

The blu-ray was spectacular also with great PQ quality--

4.5/5.0 only the subject matter is what takes this down from a perfect 5 rating (I have 2 boys aged 8 and 10-- you can imagine what I felt as I watched this film last night!)

Kick Ass.

Movie - 4.5/5

But at the same time, this is not a movie that everyone will like.

Sadly the relatively law budget was evident on this flick. Colours looked unnatural and oversaturated.
Sound design wasnt impressive either. It lacked depth.

PQ - 3.5/5
AQ - 4/5

Overall - 4/5

I absolutely loved this film. It was suspenseful enough to really keep me interested, which is rare, as mystery films aren't really my type. Fincher's style is so unique and it really shows in this film.

Didn’t really make me laugh out loud that much, but I was quite pleased with the story and characters. The characters were very likable; Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence were quite the pair. The movie is pretty amusing and entertaining the whole way through. It has a fair share of funny moments and dramatic moments.

This film is very solidly-filmed and has an excellent production value. Acting is excellent all around.

It's fun.

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4/5, film: 4/5)
Yeah!!! This is my favorite Dramadey

Die Hard (4.5/5)

Just finished watching this for the first time, and...wow...a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. Action movies aren't my favorite genre but after watching this I can see why it is for some. I can also definitely see how it helped redefined the genre.
Wish I would have seen this sooner as it's a good reference for what an action movie should be like.

Even though the video and audio wasn't superb, the story makes up for it. There were some parts in the movie where I had to turn up the volume to hear the voices. The story was great though. The music in the movie was awesome. That intro song is very sad.

Still debating whether or not I should import the Canadian BD or not (if I do, I'd buy a DVD copy with extras too).

Either way...I will own this!!

REC

Not sure if this counts as I didn't watch all of it (missed the first 20 mins due to lesson constraints) and me being a ***** and stuggling to watch bits due to my hatered of jumping, but I will say I laid quite a few...

[Show spoiler]

along the way. The whole film felt very innovative and hella scary (though I did laugh and the
[Show spoiler]fat woman getting it in the face
)

10/10
