Getting some movies gathered for the Halloween horror marathon...

Starting off with the next greatest rental: “The Crazies.”

I just realized, I’m starting to grow weary of these movies that portray military quarantine. Among horror films alone, there are scores of them, and most of them (especially “The Crazies”) make the military out to be a bunch of masked hoodlums who invade people’s homes, violently tear them away from families, wreak unbelievable havoc, and kill hoards of unarmed civilians. I’m starting to loose my ability to suspend disbelief over many of these scenes, and I think “Outbreak” remains the one and only truly accurate military-quarantine-themed film. There are just too many scenes in “The Crazies” where the military seems overly aggressive and overly unreasonable with hardly any reasoning (and certainly no political background). (Granted though,
[Show spoiler] a lot of this is explained away with a conspiracy theory (which is another thing that’s starting to irk me), and the scene with the soldier in the barn was a nice touch)
.

This is also a movie where it seems like
[Show spoiler]every time a main character is in danger, somebody else shoots the attacking zombie offscreen. It's amazing how the side characters always show up right in the nick of time to save the day!

[/rant]

Otherwise, I found that the movie picked up really well after the first half-hour, turning into a rather suspenseful thrill ride. I still say that parts of it are dumb, but it is mostly entertaining. The story’s pretty good and the characters are halfway decent. It is well-filmed most of the time, with some very nice-looking shots here and there. Production value is good. Acting is good (heck, I didn’t recognize Timothy Olyphant and Rhona Mitra right away).

3.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 3/5, film: 3.5/5)

Something about this line cracks me up…

“I saw something moving!”
“Every-thing is f***ing movin’!”

I knew you'd say that!

If they put "[REC]" out on BD, I might get it to compliment "Quarantine." I like them both about equal. Did I see that the UK's getting a copy?

No transfer rating due to being on DVD but everything looked solid, hopefully the imminent blu-rays will be awesome.

Just finishing Death Wish 3 on AMC and it's very predictable. The first one was great and the second just average. I am going to check out Parts 4 and 5, or try to. They are also fans of streching the picture for their hi def channel. Just awful.

The Town

Ok imma get allot of heat from this but i really dont care. The Town might be better the Heat. I know allot of the influence came from the original but this movie was so well done and acted that i cant ignore it and say Heat was better because of its cast. One thing for sure the story line was way better.

I'll let you guys be the judge of it but i think this movie was excellent with out one flaw

5/5

It's in my tall tall pile, waiting to be seen again.

I think I originally gave it 4.5/5, and I probably still will. The story was a little trippy and hard to get, on similar lines to "Mulholland Drive" or the ever-famous "Triangle," but from what I did understand, I loved the story and the way it all came together.

Then I found this website, and I think it helped me understand things a bit more (the FAQ in particular). I think this is just a fan site or something, but its reasoning seems sound to me:
