Two of Mandich’s three sons, Nick and Michael, explained why their mild-mannered father developed such a dislike for Saban. Their father was a longtime team radio analyst, although his role during Saban’s two Miami seasons was as a radio talk-show host, when he was openly critical of the coach.

“My dad didn’t really have enemies,’’ Nick Mandich said. “But if you don’t respect him, he’s not going to respect you. ... The first time my dad saw Saban, it was in a hallway next to his office. He said ‘hi’ to him and Saban just walked right by and didn’t acknowledge him.’’

Michael Mandich said his father received a call after that encounter.

“His assistant called and said, ‘Please do not address coach Saban unless he addresses you first,’’’ Michael Mandich said. “My dad meant it when he said he would have fought him. He never really disliked somebody quite to that degree.’’’

Had more fun watching football than playing. Been in a few fights myself, all of which came because of "who I was" and never because of what I did/said. Love basketball, played a little in high school and still play it on occasion.

My love was baseball. I pitched since I was 6 years-old. Played on the "varsity team" in HS when I was 12. Had scholarship offers from Louisville, Oregon, Florida, and of course, UK. Guess where I picked? Followed in my dads footsteps by going to UK. Had a full ride to UK without my family's help, even thought about throwing my name into the pot for draft day.

I never got to play a single game for UK though because I ended up having UCL reconstruction, never helped that I pushed myself too much to get better and wouldn't stop ****ing throwing a ball. Guess what? Not all Tommy John surgeries go well like ESPN shows. I can't rotate my right arm to throw but I can put it straight down and raise it straight out in front of me. ****ing joy. Tried working as an assistant on the team, helping other guys with pitching techniques but I found that to be a little too painful to attempt. Never watched nor talked baseball since. I ended up losing my scholarship but I still finished out my stint at UK.

So yeah, I've done a little more than armchair quarterbacking in my life even though that's mainly what I do now.

My high school team mate played for Bama, he told me so real horror stories about him. He ended up getting kick off the team for back talking Saban.

I guess people in Alabama are used to it. Bear Bryant was a bastard too. Winning excuses all.

What the hell was that? Alabama's center looked like he wanted to fight the QB up 42-14.

So AJ McCarron has three national championships and he's bagging Miss Alabama. Talk about living the good life...

I'll bet on the plane back to Alabama tonight Saban is already planning for the 2013 season. That's why he almost always wins.

The biggest game of next season is probably Alabama @ Texas A&M. That one is going to be HUGE.

Atta Boy...NEVER STOP PLAYING. Have a Great day lad, and it's never too late to lace up the blades and play hockey. Perhaps, one day, you'll give it a go.

I think he's counting pre-modern era national titles. Modern era Alabama now has 9 national titles.
