I keep trying to cull out movies I have no desire to watch again, but it's like twelve steps forward, one back. As expected, I went over 1900 during the Criterion sale, but what did it wasn't a Criterion:

Yes, I've watched my entire collection, but I don't add blu-rays to my collection until after I've watched them...so, I always have about 20-30 blu-rays sitting around in the "waiting to watch" pile. I will never catch up, and I've finally made peace with that. lol.

True...unfortunately, that number translates to other areas of one's life as well. Please note I am speaking solely for myself here and not judging anyone.

When your number gets as high as some of us (approximately 5000 total for me Blu-ray + DVD combined) and I have hundreds of others I haven't even bothered to log yet and now probably never will, you start to think about how much time in your life you spent researching, deliberating, purchasing movies and what else you could have done with all that time instead had it not been so obsessively important to you for whatever reason to constantly acquire more movies...always more. Talking with loved ones, just hangin out with your lovely bride, walking in the woods, watching a beautiful sunrise/sunset, reading a great book, volunteering to help out others less fortunate than yourself, etc.

Just one of many things that are rapidly crystalizing for me after a recent long string of tests and some grimly focusing medical exams/surgeries/biopsy results.

There is something to be said regarding everything in moderation in life vs. focusing intently on only one thing that makes you happy (or you think makes you happy).

Just one man's recent perspective.

Opportunity Cost - not a new concept. Don't know how old you are, but it sounds like your mind is trying to tell you that the cost you've incurred is too high ( 5,000 IS a mind-boggling number ). Perhaps it's time to sell off a bunch or donate to your local library, you know, open some windows, find some new roads. I know my collection (maybe a mere 1,100 discs) is a demanding mistress - but aren't all obsessions? First World problems, who says they aren't a b*tch? Good luck finding balance, pardner, or at least some good sturdy shelving.

I've gone from 1391 to 1355 in a month.
It's funny - it's like for every 5 new releases I get, I trade in 6 or 7. I'm also kinda falling out of love with big box sets and thinking of trading in/selling those to get the standard Amaray editions of some of them.
