You can also add Xbox's to that list.

The whole "small number of players" thing makes little sense when it's players that are in millions of living rooms.

Not doing a replacement program would be a very terrible idea. I hope they are smarter than that.

I assumed ‘small number of players’ refers to the fact that bunch of people on the same devices as those who’ve encountered issues aren’t encountering the same issue?

Which will presumably make it really hard to figure out wtf is wrong (but let’s hope not)

Reminds me of my shitty luck with cars, which 3/4 I’ve owned have had an ‘intermittent fault’ which can't be identified properly to be rectified (that 1/4 that was fine? Spent £1k sorting everything out at MOT time, drove it for 6 months then crashed it, write-off. FML)

The ‘small number of players’ line is frustrating wording for those experiencing the issue. I own multiple players, all either Panasonic or different generations of PlayStation, and it doesn’t work on 100% of the players in my house. For my experience as a customer, the number of players experiencing the issue is irrelevant when it leaves me with an unplayable disc.

Would have liked a more reassuring update than that.

I ripped it to my NAS using my PC for a workaround, but I do hope we get a replacement disc and I can delete that.

I am sure they will do the right thing. Let's just give them time. In my case, the disc plays in all my players, except for my Panasonic 820.

I contact Radiance to figure something out. They are not even willing to refund me the prepaid VAT. I am a bit shocked at this response, I mean it is not my problem your Shopify is configured this way, Indicator can remove VAT when it exceeds IOSS limit. Basically their policy is to point at this part of the FAQ:

The whole, we are not refunding the prepaid VAT despite you having to pay VAT is... So, if you did not read their FAQ, you are screwed. I think I'm just going to refuse the shipment, eat the shipping costs and never buy Radiance products or maybe via Amazon. But this is really disappointing, especially considering their shipping is not exactly cheap. It was not even a sale order, just monthly bundle plus missing titles from a two month period I wasn't able to get the bundles. And to think I was considering a subscription...
I believe technically charging VAT at the wrong rate, and then (presumably) submitting your VAT return to HMRC to say you did that, counts as an 'input error' and if Radiance know they are making an error - which presumably they do if they are telling customers that VAT will be charged twice - it counts a 'deliberate' error. If HMRC became aware of this error they would require Radiance to go back in fix all the 'input errors' on their VAT returns going back 20 years, and pay penalties. Even if you overpay HMRC VAT it counts as an 'input error' because a VAT invoice is a legal document. As a business if you become aware you have made 'input errors' you are required by law to make a declaration to HMRC to tell them, and put them right.

Radiance claims they pay VAT even above 150 EUR, post office says "Impossible!" and I am stuck in the middle. Paying VAT again and a 28 EUR fee to the post office is a bit too much for me so I declined the package, at least that only costs me 21 GBP, which makes it less expensive to just reorder. But the whole "meh, policy, your fault", makes me not want to bother with it anymore, so I just cancelled all my orders.

I can confirm that The Tale of Oiwa's Ghost does not play on my Panasonic UB-820. It does play on a much older Sony Blu-ray player that I have, forget the model number for it. If it's not working on any UB-820 models, that's more than a "small number of players." That's a pretty popular brand and model within a niche physical media market.

I think if you watch it without the subtitles, it won't appear. If you need to watch it with the subtitles to appreciate it, then the on-screen credit is appropriate and should remain.

I’d rather they credited them in the booklet or on the sleeve.

But I think modern credits are way too long anyway. Far too many people are being given a billing.

Does anyone think that any of the SOLD OUT titles will come back into stock this sale or are they gone for good (specifically Tokijiro, Sympathy for the Underdog and The Agitator box)?

Most likely gone for good. I would just grab them from another retailer while they're still affordable

Still no shipping notice from the sale, I assume this one must have been a big success.

It is revisionist as it is not part of the filmmakers original vision. It is pure ego at worst, ignorance at best. You think 60s Japanese directors wanted someone from 70 years in the future to stamp their name on the image at the actual end of their movie? It goes against the entire purpose of film preservation.

The subtitles themselves are also revisionist, not part of the original film, and often don't even translate the words literally but rather are part of some not-the-director's attempt to translate the dialogue so that it will make the most sense to a different-than-the-original audience. Radiance always provides an option to watch without subtitles, which will mean you won't see either the revisionist subtitles nor have to see anyone credited for those revisionist subtitles. There is already an existing option for the type of puritanical viewing you desire. I just checked on my copy of Tale of Oiwa's Ghost and, indeed, there is no credit for the subtitles at the end if you choose to watch without them, so you're good to go.

It is still crossing the line because it is a credit of the blu-ray, not a credit of the actual film. It is like adding subtitles saying, disc printed in Mexico, cover art by so and so. Then they're putting it over the actual original video and sound design. They can add these revisionist credits after the timeline of the film if they insist. I was vibing out to the ending of the Snow Woman and then suddenly this terrible credit pops up transporting us from ancient Japan to some college intern in 2025 America demanding their name is in the actual film.

I agree, I hate when I sit down to watch a samurai movie but first I have to sit through minutes of all the 1960s cast and crew who didn't even exist in Sengoku-period Japan.

Same again when the movie finishes and I have to see "The End", just completely kills the mood and ruins the immersion being reminded that this is just a fictional movie some random real people nobody cares about made.

The sheer nerve of those filmmakers and translators, expecting to be credited for their work. Same when I read a book and see the author's name on the cover.

The ones you mentioned are all sold out for good on their website, according to their own words: "It's been a scorcher of sale, as 7 Limited Editions - including most recently Tokijiro: Lone Yakuza, The Agitator, A Quiet Place in the Country and Sympathy for the Underdog - are sold out on our site." (Source: Radiance Newsletter)

The other 3 Sold Out are Nomad + My Heart is That Eternal Rose, Planet of the Vampires (SE) and The Landlord, if I am not mistaken.
