I dont understand this. All of my criterion blu-rays looks this way. None of my Region B blu-rays is like this. This is the strangest thing. I do got a region free moded blu-ray player, but its from the States so I would assume it originaly was a Region A player.

"Breathless" by Godard. The cake is referencing its 50th anniversary. It was mentioned a few pages back.

Some things like the New German Cinema covers such a large span of years, so I'm not sure how to tackle it. I'm trying not to break it down by genre, but I'm afraid it will be at some point.

So, I guess for right now I'd need to make a list of the more prominent themes/periods/genres and from there I can start weeding out the notable films.

- French New Wave (late 1950s and 1960s)
- Italian Realism (1944 - 1952)
- New German Cinema (1962 - 1982)
- Poetic Realism (1930s - 1940s)
- American Independent Cinema (late 1960s-1970s)

CC
There was an Australian New Wave a while back. Walkabout was one of its earlier titles. mid to late 80s maybe? Seemed promintent at the time.

Those are mostly exploitation films, but could work if he shows her enough 70's films to go into Australian Cinema. Mad Dog Morgan is a good one. But I really love Dennis Hopper's work (directing and acting).

Oh, and it also mentions the Chaplin films to be shown theatrically starting July 16th by Janus Films.

Even with the discount, still too high for me.

Has anyone discussed the typo in the newsletter where it says "Coming in June" and lists Night Train to Munich (Blu-ray Edition)? Seems like an obvious typo since they only announced it for DVD and not Blu. I click the link and it takes me to the summary page for the DVD on Criterion's website.

They incorrectly put that instead of the Blu-ray for Everlasting Moments.

I recommend the book "You Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet" by Andrew Sarris. He breaks down the genres in the book, as well as a few essays on stars from the various genres. It's important to note that in this books, it's mainly focusing on American cinema. If you haven't yet, this is a must own book for any cineaste -> The American Cinema: Directors And Directions 1929-1968. Although the term "The American Cinema" is used, there are many directors featured not from the US.

Sarris goes into:

- The Musical
- The Gangster Film
- The Horror Film
- The Screwball Comedy
- The Western
- The Film Noir
- The War Film

But ugh...my mind is blank (it's 3:00 a.m.) ...I'll get back to you on this.

Check out my cinema book collection and if you have any questions please let me know.

* And I know there are some people here who probably have not picked up a book in ages but definitely give them a try. Hehe... Especially since a lot of cinema books cost .01 to less than $10 used and most of them, you can find typically in great shape.

Thanks for the breakdown, Jedi. I'm a bit weary spending the $75 asking price on Amazon.

Thanks for your suggestions, as well, kndy. I should definitely be able to put together a concise list of films for now to get everything going. I'm not sure when I'm actually gonna start this whole process or how long I'm gonna spread it out. It's all in the infancy stage right now. Thanks, though.

Best Buy apparently does not want me to have any of these movies. They hardly stock any of them in store, and I do not want to pay their shipping fees.

Bleh.

CC, please do a proper release of Spartacus.

I do not have a region A player, but Spartacus being a part of the CC would give my the final push to get a region free player.
