It was filmed somewhere in Georgia. If you go to Leopold's in Savannah, the walls are covered with posters of movies filmed in GA, and they've got a big poster for The Farmer on display there.

You guys! Neckbeards live in their parents' basements; Hipsters live on your couch.

Neckbeards are anti-social, overweight guys who spend all their time on their computers geeking out over movies, comic books, video games, and Japanese culture. Their special skills are building a desktop computer from scratch and telling you who the key grip was on any 80s slasher movie. [Full disclosure: I might be a neckbead - or at least register on the scale - but I do have my own apartment]

Hipsters are urban (and sometimes suburban) posers who are perpetually on the cutting edge of pop culture - always wearing the latest cool fashion, always sporting the latest cool haircut and tattoo, and always listening to the latest cool (and inevitably obscure) band or rapper. They are scenesters who hang out at all the right (and inevitably filthy) bars/clubs/coffee shops and their vampiric lifestyle is usually paid for via a trust fund provided by a dead wealthy relative. Their special skills are creating art installations from trash found on the street and improv comedy.

Thanks for the lesson! I definitely had my terminologies mixed up. I have a slightly different view of hipsters, though. To me, a hipster is a Midwest cul-de-sac or West Coast transplant, living off his parent's money who has decided to migrate to Brooklyn, the South Bronx or wherever the latest poor neighborhood is the latest hot trend because it's what all his "cool" hipster friends and all other trust-funders are doing. They don't give a rat's ass about ruining a neighborhood's character or displacing longtime residents by accepting whatever rent greedy landlords pull out of their rear ends. They spend their days sitting around overpriced coffee shops in flip flops (even during the dead of Winter) typing away on their macbooks or iPhones or reading paperbacks from the mid 80's. But I don't think anyone else but other hipsters think they're cool

I don't think your view of Hipsters is in conflict with mine at all - I would agree with all of that.

If you have ever seen the BBC show Nathan Barley, it is a perfect (and hilarious) depiction of Hipsterdom (and could easily be transported from London to Brooklyn).

Does anyone remember the wonderful blog Diehipster? So much entertainment to be found, particularly in the 'Today's Hipster Beating,' such as these:

"Today, I saw the dental floss legged brothers Brice and Cord from Wyoming training their beard lice to grow local and sustainable roof top celery so they can have more time to explore North Brooklyn’s vibrant art scene. So I brought them to the observation deck of the Empire State Building and gave them flying lessons. End of story."

I was a periodic commenter and was briefly chatting with Ed David during the whole Mast Bros. meltdown which ultimately played a large role in the closure of the blog.

Edit: I'm not 100% sold on this being DH's identity. The quality of the writing and the cultural context of many of the post implies someone with, at the very least, some first hand experience with the sorts of trash being covered on the site. This girl seems a bit dense and not very aware of the actual intricacies of the blog.

I was once accused of being a Hipster by a crazy homeless guy in Greenpoint. I was like "dude, I'm a f****g NECKBEARD!" (I didn't say that - I just told him to STFU).

To many Brooklynites, any white guy in his 20s-30s who doesn't look like either a stock broker or a construction worker is a Hipster.
