I have been told that the maintenance crew will be working on the "signal leak" problem tomorrow and that I will be getting a phone call afterwards. Losing the internet is an inconvenience for me, but many rely upon it for their incomes. My next door neighbor works from home as an iphone tech support representative. When the internet is down, he is not paid. He has a family with two small children; he needs stable internet service. Sony doesn't seem to know what the hell they want to be. They make some of the best 4K discs released, many fine blu-rays, promote them, all while discontinuing them from their rewards program. The lack of a 4K disc drive in their PS4 is another odd decision on their part. Discs are far from being history regardless of the echo chamber in which you heard that prediction. There remain plenty of people who prefer disc and there also many who enjoy both disc and digital. Combined there are enough of us to keep physical media viable. I know all of you have been on the edge of your seats awaiting the next update on my internet troubles, so here it is.
![]() Yesterday, I had my 30th outage since May 11th. I had two maintenance workers come over on Friday and they resumed messing with that "box" in my neighbor's backyard, which Mediacom refers to as the "pedestal." They left the "pedestal" like this yesterday: MediacomMaintenance2June2018CroppedSm.jpg and it remains in this condition today. The maintenance crew did not even bother to close it back up. It rains here nearly every day, of late, and I suspect that the metal shroud's purpose is to protect the components inside the "pedestal" from the elements. Is it any wonder that Mediacom's network is in such a shambles when this is the quality of maintenance they perform? Another snapshot moment illustrating the incompetence of my ISP. I have had internet service for 19 consecutive hours. The last streak made it to 71 hours. Can a new record be obtained? I ordered 20 more today. While I await their arrival, I already have a substantial library and every title in it happens to be something I like. I am certain I can easily wait 10 whole days until Tomb Raider is out on disc. ![]() When it is released, I will be able to watch it from either 4K disc or even wondrous 3D, both of which will look, and sound, better than your streamed presentation. You do not even have the option to stream it in 3D. You are welcome to stay dependent on your ever more expensive ISP to access content you do not even really own. I will continue to own my movies on disc. I will watch my discs with no concerns about internet performance, data caps, or digital content provider errors and I will enjoy these same discs in the highest available quality that they alone provide along with their unsurpassed reliability.
