I don't know how they rank whose number 1 but most sites didn't have bama at number one even though I believe they got the most 5 star guys.

Urban Meyer is killing it though as expected.

the AD at 'BAMA is the same age. and our head coach is 61. imo, it takes something other than age to cause a downhill spiral.

espn has them as the #1 rated recruiting class. other than that, i don't think they're ranked #1 from anyone else.

I'm not saying age is the primary reason Texas' AD needs to go, it's that Texas' two revenue sports (basketball & football) are in a period of mediocrity and it doesn't seem like he's making any changes. Despite the Texas basketball team not making a sweet 16 since 2008 the AD still gave Rick Barnes a new contract and $125,000 raise in 2011 that kept Barnes among the highest-paid basketball coaches. In football they gave Mack Brown a raise and contract extension in 2012 that kept him as one of the top-paid college coaches despite not finishing the year ranked the prior 2 years. It just seems that Texas is no longer getting results with their current people and maybe a change at the top is what the school needs to get out of their current funk.

You would think Ole Miss would have at least the top 2 class this year. Another team that did good was Michigan. They can finally go back to running a pro style offense, with out Denard Robinson.

I think SC and UGA had the worst day yesterday. I think the leaked fight after there bowl hurt them. I can't remember the last time I seen so players jump ship like that. UGA lost way to many in state guy's this year.

Saban looks great for 61. Especially in such a relatively high stress job.

I wouldn't expect them to change to a pro-style offense for at least another year. They've still got Devin Gardner for another year, and his backup should be redshirt sophomore Russell Bellomy, who is a dual-threat QB as well. I know they got the #5 running back and #8 pocket passer but that doesn't mean they'll go away from their current offensive system just because Robinson is gone.

Pretty sure I heard, they were going back to the pro style. I could be wrong. They still could go with the pro style with Gardner, he is a pretty go passer.

They had a good conversation on the radio today. Which ia most important for success with college coaches, recruiting or game day coaching ability? I'd say recruiting is slightly more important. You can win a national title with great recruiting but a mediocre coach. I'd put Les Miles in that category for sure and maybe Mack Brown. Probably the best recruiter who was a horrible coach was Ron Zook. Zook always had top notch classes at Florida and Illinois but he was horrible at actual coaching. It took Urban Meyer to lead his guys at UF to a national title. Nick Saban is the most successful because he's great at both.

You would never guess that Saban is only 2 months younger than Mack Brown. Pete Carroll is the same way. He's 61 as well and doesn't look very different than he did when he was coaching the Patriots in the late-90s.

This is really pathetic for a parent to do. Last year something similar happened when a Louisiana HS recruit committed to Alabama and his own mother immediately attacked him on live tv for not going to LSU.

I think you can make an argument for both. Think about it teams like Boise St, Stanford, Oregon, K St those teams are good because of coaching. They never have top 10 class's, they are just well coached and have a great system in place. We see what can happen when you have top players and a great coach in place.

At the national championship level, I'd agree with you, but if you step back and look at some of the teams that aren't really in the big picture, it's about the coaching.

Example: Chan Gailey was great at recruiting to GT, but he never got a whole lot out of his players. Paul Johnson has had some pretty good seasons without much, and he still struggles recruiting.

Yeah some of these parents need to grow up. It would be hard for me to let my son go, but its his life to live not mine. My wife on the other hand might be the parent to run off with the letter lol.

Rivals had Bama down in the top10 as of last week, ESPN has always had bama 1, and scouts inc had Bama at 9, but now they have OSU, UM, Bama... So things must have really changed this past week.
