I want to dedicate this update on my ongoing internet "woes" to none other than flyry. I know how much he enjoys them and this will motivate him to search for another funny image to express that delight.
![]() I had my 5th tech visit today, for those keeping score, and it was decided that perhaps my owned modem, a Motorola Arris Surfboard 6141, may have "locked up" or "bricked" possibly, but not definitively, due to all of the power cycling it has endured along with all of the test signals it has been bombarded with by my ISP's tech support staff- this is their theory; I did not conjure this one up. After yesterday's most recent power cycling, my owned modem could not reacquire a signal. It has no factory reset button. It might also be that my 4 year-old modem is just near the end of its lifespan. It might also just be technician BS, but I am now running, temporarily, with one of their modems to see if that improves matters. The visiting techs recommended the purchase of Netgear's CM 1000 modem should I decide to buy a new one. The loaner modem costs a silly $7.50 extra per month- it is a "hitron" brand of modem. The last picture I posted of the still open "pedestal" or, more accurately, demarcation point, is due to the maintenance crew accidentally spiking through one of the underground cables. Another maintenance crew is scheduled to come and undo the damage caused by the previous crew. Nice, huh? The techs repeated that there are still problems in my area that require maintenance's attention while also telling me that some of "those old men" need to retire. So, the blame game continues between the tech and maintenance crews- and so does the sporadic service. They asked for my patience as they believe it will take a "few" more days to repair. ![]() The new streak of connectivity is but 1 hour old; how long will it last? Exciting stuff, I know, and I will dutifully supply more scintillating updates. Last edited by Vilya; 06-04-2018 at 05:45 PM. |

When a director or cinematographer wants to tinker with the color timing and such, I am okay with that, also. I want to see the film as they envisioned it. But the deletion, or editing, of dialog, scenes, or changes to songs and score are a different matter. I am adamantly against this type of revisionism. I support the release of films like D.W. Griffith's The Birth Of A Nation, the original and unadulterated Star Wars trilogy, Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ, the original and unreleased theatrical screening of Disney's Aladdin, even the hard to endure Salo, and, last, but not least, Disney's Song Of The South. For those offended by these films, and others, I simply suggest that they do not watch them, but do not infringe on the rights of the rest of us to see them. I have said before that I am unconcerned about short form content, whatever it is viewed upon, adversely impacting long form content and what it is viewed upon. I remain unfazed. I continue to believe that all of these types of content can coexist, even as digital content and physical media coexist, and even as smartphones and big screen TVs coexist.
With that said, if you are worried about a nightmarish future wherein movies and TV shows are assigned to the ash heap of history, I would say insulate yourself as much as possible and buy more content on disc right now! The more we buy, the more they will make. The more we own, the less we can lose. Here's a link to Amazon.uk; you get busy with that: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ I'll get busy with Amazon stateside. We got this covered! ![]() |

No. Some things you just never gamble.
Maybe the slipcovers, but probably not even them. I know! It just came to me! The victor can have the digital codes (many are likely expired, anyway). By the way, here is another update. Pause for drumroll. My internet went down three more times since my last report, although they were both momentary, less than four minutes. Makes 36 outages in 24 days. Streak is now at 6 hours. And I have a sixth tech visit scheduled; this time the area supervisor will grace me with his/her presence. Last edited by Vilya; 06-05-2018 at 04:00 AM. |

![]() Speaking of slipcases, I don’t like them. I always take them off when my disc arrives. I have hundreds in a binder lol. ![]() |

The film I was referring to earlier was The Dam Busters, although there are other examples too. You're probably aware of the famous 'n' word used in this film which I guess nobody in the 1950's would have considered offensive, but to delete or change the word so as not to offend today's audience is just not acceptable to me. Thankfully the Blu-ray releases are unaltered, but broadcasters have on occasion replaced or even edited out the word altogether. |

Both The Dam Busters and Pink Floyd:The Wall 1982 need a region "A", or region free, blu-ray release. The DVD of the latter most definitely uses the "n" word name in that scene. I have seen this movie many times and it still surprises me when I hear it being used in this manner.

I've never been bothered about them either to be honest with you. However, I do like the one that comes with the recent Eureka Blu-ray release of The Old Dark House (Boris Karloff), which features different artwork to the actual cover on the case.
