I know, right!? Unless your names are Christopher Nolan or Zack Snyder, the IMAX AR for films won’t make it to physical media (I’m looking at you, Brad Bird, and what you did to Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol). I mean, this is just downright disappointing! To think this is Universal who also released First Man (also shot by Linus Sandgren) on 4K UHD with the lunar sequences in IMAX AR intact.

But in the end, I guess the Bond producers might have had final say in this. Please don’t tell me they’re planning to release it in a streaming service eventually (a la the IMAX Enhanced versions of select MCU films on Disney+)!

The IMAX sequences were filmed with scope in mind (dead space above and below). The composition looks perfectly fine at 2.39:1. You're losing little. The DP knew this film would be shown scope only in most theaters and planned accordingly.

Wow, if it’s anything like that, it’ll be awesome! I’m hoping the doors on it open, though.

That's a nice shiny Slip probably exclusive to the US UHD.

This looks pretty cool for the price, albeit Goldfinger not NTTD.

And this is why I'm not too disappointed the IMAX scenes aren't included. Scope was likely Fukunaga's intended ratio anyway. When it comes to AR, the director's preference overrules anything else IMO.

Many times, except for the occasional Marvel or DC director, the IMAX sequences are insisted upon by the studio brass who want the revenue from higher premium ticket prices. The DP and director, rightly, know that like 3D it's pretty much a gimmick and make sure that the IMAX shots are actually composed for their intended ratio... either scope or flat. From an artistic standpoint the IMAX scenes add little because the rest of the image is superfluous.

Where's the official UK back cover artwork for the 4K of No Time to Die? Someone leaked the 4K UK back artwork for Halloween Kills (another Universal title).

Are you really trying to claim that directors are forced to shoot in 15/70 IMAX? The open-matte version of something like 1917 or BR2049 is indeed a gimmick insisted by the studio, but shooting in 15/70 definitely isn't. Maybe Fukunaga doesn't want the shifting aspect ratio outside of IMAX like Brad Bird. Or it might be the studio that wants a consistent aspect ratio across all Craig Bonds films.

Yeah, I usually think people make too much out of the expanded IMAX aspect ratio. The gimmick isn't that you're getting a bigger image, the gimmick is that the image fills your entire field of view. I appreciate that once in a while, a film with its IMAX aspect ratio actually looks fine on home video (Justice League and MI: Fallout both come to mind), but on a small screen that doesn't fill your entire field of view, it becomes painfully obvious that these shots were framed with a different aspect ratio in mind.

On an IMAX screen, you eyes sorta compensate for the extra image, and you're still mostly seeing things in a way that is comparable to a standard theatrical setting. On an average television, the framing of the shot usually ends up looking wrong. I tried watching Shang-Chi again, this time on Disney Plus, and the IMAX framing on a television honestly made the film look a lot less elegant than it looks in its standard theatrical framing.

Am I correct in assuming there won't be an updated Daniel Craig Collection that includes No Time to Die? Debating picking up a copy of the 4K Craig collection for $45 while it's on sale, but would really hate to see another box set come out including his last film.

I heard a different studio has the rights to this one, not MGM, so that I shouldn't expect one. Just thought I'd ask.
